They're saying that in the grand scheme of things paying for (what may be) expensive medium to high quality clothing doesn't matter as most people won't notice or care. All that matters if if you look good in it. Expensive or high quality clothing doesn't automatically make it look good on your body.

To me, men that are into fashion seem to get caught up in branding and price too much. They treat clothing like cars and it's not the same. Be more like women. A girl that's into clothing can walk out of the house in a full forever 21 outfit, including shoes, that she paid 60 dollars for and everyone will compliment her. Only men seem to feel shame about buying clothing from fast fashion houses. This bored is definitely guilty of bashing on cheap fashion and claiming it's low quality as if it falls apart when you tug on a loose thread. And that's not the case at all, sometimes the fast fashion stores make decent cheap clothing.

When I got out of high school it was my first foray into fashion and attempting to dress nicely, looking back I definitely did not succeed in doing so, but it was a learning experience. It makes "nice" looks accessible to the average person, high schoolers that don't have a lot of money or sadly, millennials that also don't have a lot of money and just want to get some quick clothes. However in my experience money is not really saved in the long run considering that most of the items sold do not last long and will have to be replaced. That's not just money for the clothes but the time and commuting to get those clothes. The quality is just awful on most of things there. Scratchy jeans and slacks that are just suffocating to wear, t-shirts so thin and flimsy that I can't wear any without my nipples showing through like sharp daggers. I bought some slacks and dress shirts at C&A on sale and while still really low on the quality scale they were at least not so scratchy and the designs were not pretentious tryhard shit. Just NORP work wear which is what I needed.

Also for as low as the prices are, they still seem so overpriced to me. Even with stuff on sale I almost never see anything I want. I found better basics at Tesco of all places. Muji and Uniqlo are much better places to look for clothes at a similar price point.

The only thing I've bought there in the past 5 or 6 years are funny socks with cool designs which I love. I have about 4 or 5 pairs including ones with Mario on them.

That's fine but there should be a balance. I want people to geek out about fashion but ultimately most people just want to look good and outside of utility that's what clothing should be about. You don't need to pay six or nine hundred dollars for a pair of Saint Laurent jeans to feel like you look good. To reiterate, that's just something I noticed about male centric fashion groups and boards, they're all about rare Japanese denim and collecting Rick Owens pieces, or waiting in line to buy a limited supreme hoodie. They seem not to focus on whether the clothing looks good or what makes an outfit look good. On the other I see women loving clothing or outfits from a wide range. That twenty dollar dress from target gets just as much love as the Chanel handbag.

That's exactly what r/malefashionadvice is about. I do agree that the focus for most people should be about looking good however I think the environmental impact should be a major consideration for everyone. Someone's that means paying a bit more.

See some pieces occasionally that I want here but then when I actually get up close and touch them I don't want them anymore. Really bad quality compared to other fast fashion retailers.
