Interview with Jean Touitou from Vestoj #4 "On Power".
The idea behind this thread is to post an article every Monday and try to discuss the article with each other.

Good read. I respect people who stick to their principles, even at the expense of commercial success and public opinion.
Fashion has always been elitist. Not many people can intensely resonate with a talented designer's vision; there's a unique relationship between the person who creates and the person who appreciates. If you let the ugly in, you're finished, you've compromised on purity and intensity... True of any community.

Thanks for posting, op.

/fa/ needs more shit like this, but sadly I don't think the vast majority of people here care about this sort content. As for the article, I enjoyed it a lot. Something that jumped out to me in the article was his comment on models. I guess I never really considered how models can affect your brand, even though it seems obvious in retrospect.

Besides Lemaire, are there any other designers you resonate with? And why?

As long as there are a few people who are willing to stick by, I'm happy.

Thanks for the post. This is my first time reading Jean Touitou's name. He seems like a pretty good shitposter, and a traditional man. I appreciated his honesty and principles. There is something to the fact that being opinionated has negative connotations in the current year.

Thanks, OP. It's always great to listen to someone who doesn't give a damn and has every right not to.

I haven't found anything that aligns with me as well as Lemaire's brand of humility and stoicism. I find that menswear is often either too tame or too out-there for me. I'm aware that finding areas to innovate that don't cross the boundary between wearable and conceptual is difficult. I value attention to detail more than flashiness -- covert innovation accompanied by flawless execution. That's Lemaire to me: variations on a theme, solid silhouette and controlled movement, geometric purity, calm order, natural and subdued color. His pants and coats are out of this world. I find that there's a link between his vision and classic French aesthetic ideals (e.g. Alain Delon, Belmondo, L-F Celine, Camus)

I have lots of respect for the usual suspects Yohji, Rick, Raf, Lang. Some collections from Prada and Dior have caught my eye; they've mostly managed to keep a sane control of their image. Marni, sometimes. Slimane and Jun Takahashi used to be my ideal, and again much respect, but I've changed a great deal since then.

Interestingly womenswear is often more attractive to me. For example, Raf's time at Dior (which I like more than any menswear he's done) was stellar and a testament to understated, humble detail. If you haven't, check out the incredible construction details in ss16, my favorite. Christopher Kane's aw15 and ss16 are also very strong at times. Lemaire's womenswear is great as well.

That's enough from me. Do you have any particular designer you feel strongly about? I'm sure you're more knowledgeable than I am.

I'm a fan of A.P.C. and don't have much to say other than I liked the honesty and "sassiness" of this interview, and it seems it was rare in the sense that it's been one of the only where the interviewee has challenged the questions.

I laughed at the irony of the jean selling as all this board was about was A.P.C petit standards at one point.

I'm not so sure I am.
There's no loyality to a certain designer or brand. I sew/tailor my own clothes (not anything spectacular) and the designers and their work is just a source of inspiration. Can I replicate or integrate elements of it to my own stuff?
