Is it true that there are actually market research agencies that do statistics on trends that they sell to designers?
Because it's interesting to see that each season one designer has at least one piece exactly like another one.

You sound like a child who just discovered Santa isn't actually real.

So does it mean STEM controlls fashion? Production, textile ingeneers and statisticians in marketing?

Do you mean several designers have the same piece or one designer who makes a few similar pieces? It's called themes and it's usually what influences a collection. So no, not everything is decided by agencies or trendwatchers. Some designers chose to not follow these criteria.

Companies need to know their audience, so they study them, is that so weird?
Literally every company does this.

Can't do market research without math. Can't run a decent company without market research.

As well as can't produce shit without ingeneers and can't pick right fabrics without people who studied textiles (chemistry and machinery is actually pretty big part of it).

I can't really expain it, but I look at runways and there are always pretty common traits among big designers (I think Rick, CdG and Yohji are some of designers who always stick to their intial styles). And there's no way it's an coincidence. I understand if one designer release similar piece next season - it's a rip-off. But they have no way to know what another brand is doing to release it at the same season.

I think it doesn't matter if they have similar pieces to me it just matters who does it best. Same concept who does it first, who cares? I want the best not the first.

Imo in said example i think the margiela one is better

My point wasn't "one does it better than the other", but rather "someone tells them they should do bomber with this type of print this season".

those jackets are literally just copy+paste of 19th/early 20th century taxonomy illustrations.
