I use to actively participate in /fa/ when I was 15 or 16. I loved this place. Denim Dan, Casey, Sieg, all the others trips. This was a beautiful community.
That was 5 years ago, and u have just recently returned out of some nostalgic longing to return to my early high school days.
I began to browse, and immediately had to stop as I was beginning to boil with rage. Today I came back and forced myself to lurk through every thread; and I am just in a state of shock and disgust right now. First off; the average age on this board can't be more than 16. The way you guys talk, the things you talk about, the unironic extremist liberalism; this board is just tumblr now. It really is. And it makes me legitimately sad. Something I loved very dearly is now dead; and you killed it.

I am prepared for a storm of yapping teens telling me how I'm wrong and claiming to be older before before they have to get ready for bedtime; but are their any fags, old or new, here that agree with me?
It's definitely a lost cause at this point, there's no point even putting the effort into fixing it; but I just really want to know what the actual downfall of /fa/ was, was there some final killing blow?
After my thread this will be my last post here, so long old friend.

I'm 19. Yeah, this board is pretty shitty but occasionally something good pops up. There have been a couple times when a lot of people were complaining and tried to think of ways to make /fa/ great again but nothing has really come out of it.

Absolute plebian underage b& started taking over though and I was forced to leave. I come back every now and then to see if /fa/ has gone back to it's old ways but it's always the same 16 year old cucks posting utter shit.

4chan overall has gone to shit in the recent years, too many underage shits and normies taking over, too bad there really aren't any good alternatives, Cripplechan is just as shit but in a different way and all the other imageboards are slow and insignificant.

I think we may be witnessing the death of the imageboard format. I hope something will replace it.

18 here because I don't fuck with rules.

But yeah, guys here tend to be pretty shallow sometimes, and now I tend to avoid effay guys in real life as well. The thing is I just really love fashion, and trend-obsessed guys who look all the same and think everyone is ugly just piss me off (even though it's better than smelling bad and dressing like shit I guess). I know I sound like an edgy fuckboy here but I wish more people on here tried to fuck shit up with their style. Try it, you might look bad and wacky at first but once you gain experience you'll look awesome. Maybe it's because I like alternative fashions too and trends tend to be pretty minor in it compared to what we do here.

But I don't want to be an asshole (what's the point in criticizing if you don't try to make things better eh), so I just jump on advice threads and do what I can. Plus this board still has good people and content sometimes. I originally lurked here because /cgl/ was too slow, and then I just started really enjoying this board.

also I fucking love lunarcore.

I agree. I started lurking here at maybe 16-17 so like a year before casemods left. Now about to turn 21. I think the downfall was just due to the way culture has been heading. Memes are in the mainstream. White people talk like black twitter accounts to be half ironic but also to seem cool. Facebook is literally just white girls sharing memes from Twitter. And honestly 4chan is a form of social media. So as mainstream social media caught on to memes 4chan seemed less interesting and more equal to the mainstream so people were less likely to be shit heads here because they can just do it on facebook

as someone who's in the same boat as you OP, (used to browse here years ago and have recently come back), I think you're putting way too much blame on the users and not the content. this board has always been retarded and shallow. even around 2011 you couldn't talk about anything other than gothninja without being shutdown and called dadcore. I'd argue you had to conform to even more ridiculous standards in order to not be made fun of.

i blame the actual issues for why this board is so slow and uninteresting on fashion in general. the same inspo pics from 6 years ago are still being posted now. designers have not innovated or done anything remotely interesting in the past 5 years. its just been rehashes of the same shit. the most hyped apparel now is kanye's derivative adidas line. Mainly because its kanye's derivative adidas line. There's no new cutting edge designers being discussed, mainly because there aren't any. A little bit less Raf and a little bit more Jerry Lorenzo is really the only difference I see in terms of discussion.

in summary /fa/ is shit now because fashion is shit now.

"Mutt" occasionally drops some cool dumps now and then.
"Intern" Seems pretty knowledgeable and gives good advice when asked (I love you Intern)

Defiantly could use stricter mods. Lots of new threads belong in Cop or Not or Where to Cop Threads. Too damn many ultra specific cores. Core General Maybe?!?!?!? Face Rating belongs in /soc/. PLZ delete "Is blank Effay"/"What are fa (not clothing related thing)" threads.

Have seen some decent "Make /fa/ great again thread"'s over the past few months. Inspo Generals are only cancer 30-60% cancer.

You can blame the fappening and social media for this.

4chan used to have somewhat of a mysterious rep in the early 2000s due to the anonymous stuff and old /b/'s shenanigans.
However because at the time most people were just getting into using the internet as a mainstream social platform not too many took interest in this nonsense and it was skimmed over.
Then came facebook,YouTube, and other social media sites which boosted the use of the internet by people of various ages.
This coincided with the spread of meme culture which was heavily influenced by 4chan.
This lead to a new wave of users flocking here around the 2009-2012 ish period expecting dank memery while wanting to be apart of the community and experience.
(We also started getting some new boards around this time)
Anyway over the years social media became even more mainstream and intergrated into society,
So as an example, before when Anons did something like project chanology, it would only reach a few news stations and other places on the web before dying out without major consequences.
But because of social media there came a way for information to be spread even faster among the masses.
So when the fappening occured 4chan once again spiked in popularity and the event caused a new wave of users to come here (most of which were underage).
This however permanently damaged the quality of the most popular boards, because the kids who went on /b/ only saw it as a place for porn and gore
(it's debatable that it was always like this but in the years following the fappening it's gotten worse) the board's quality sharply decreased into what it is today, then after they got tired of /b/ we had them pour over mostly into /v/,the other nsfw boards, and some lesser boards like /fa/.

That's just my current understanding though, it doesn't account for other factors like Reddit and 9gag whose users most likely visit to shitpost.

>> No.11636366

The killing blow was you getting older. You will feel it more and more as time goes on. (As a benefit to go along with the downside, you will also care less and less)

Personally I like seeing what people who are way younger than me come up with. It's cool, even though I can't wear anything they wear because I'm not young enough to pull it off.

I do agree that discussion, on nearly every board, has political or gender-war aspects to it that didn't quite exist before. Shut the fuck up about politics, everyone, please.

There have been a lot of board improvement threads in the past and they have not proven to be fruitful. What significant positive change have they brought on?

I agree with you that there are a lot of seperate threads that belong to their respective general. Maybe that's telling for the fact that a lot of people don't care. Who comes here to talk about the hobby?

Inspo threads are mostly imagedumps. I have seen 1 thread lately made by chillness where people talked about what inspired them. I don't know how much of that was serious, but it's still interesting to read and it gives an opportunity to discussion.

>Really feel like the general pool of knowledge on this board needs to be expanded.

the truth that nobody want to see is that 4chan dropped in quality because most of the people that made the website great have moved to tumblr. I don't feel like going on a 3-paragraph rant, but basically this website was built on teenage edgelords. Teenage edgelords created the OCs, wrote the greentexts, discovered the weird videos, spammed the memes, etc. The normies were just here to have a laugh and push the replies count up. When the normies started outnumbering the shitheads, we realized we could just take our business to this blue hell website with a closed follow system and do our thing within our own normie-free community. I jumped ship. Most people did. Even the new generation of edgelords grew up on tumblr (school shooting fetishists, vaporwave shitters, whatever-the-fuck-transkins-are, etc) Now what you're left with here are the normie lurkers, too lazy/scared/unimaginative to create any interesting content.

this is super-condensed and it still turned out longer than I thought, fuck.

I'm 23 and am just stopping by 4chan in general. I used to frequent here a lot 4-6 years ago. (Found 4chan when I was 15).

4chan is now nothing but 14-20 year olds and shills/bot posts. Def has driven me off the site over the years.

I wonder if I was as cancerous when I was their age. Probably.

As someone who first came here back in 2011 I remember saving infographics like pic related for advice and learning things like basic color theory from this board. It may just be me turning 23 tomorrow, but the decline has been almost universal on this site. /mu/'s shifted so far away from the /mu/-core that I used to know that the only NMH threads you see are meme posts. I remember /r9k/ being >tfw no gf and nonstop depression and now there are daily threads about girlfriends. Even /pol/ somehow managed to decline from doom paul, to natsoc circle-jerk central where you could at least have a discussion about economics or religion, to nothing but KEKKEKKEK, Blacked, and TRUMP 2016 posting. I'm incredulous that i'm already feeling nostalgic about things I used to consider shit because the new shit is just that much shittier.

Where are the budget - mid - expensive apparel threads? The designer generals? Shit, no one talks about Julius anymore in here, and he was (and still is) a big guy in fashion.
Most people enter here without even reading the sticky, and straight up ask us to make them a wardrobe or to adapt some animu character to decent clothing.
I am 19 years-old now, got here when I was 16, lurked my ass off and stayed fucking quiet until I learned more about fashion and could help out some other people.
Just fuck my board up.
The real question is not

The problem is newfags like trips over here think they're too good to lurk. 4chan went to shit in 2011 and just sunk a little more since. OP has to be baiting acting like 5 years ago was some place to be.

everyone has always said '/board/ was always shit,' but that doesn't mean there aren't different grades of shit. /fa/ did use to have very good trips and knowledgable posters, and the board accommodated them and accepted their help. now it's just underage newfags who can't be assed to learn a little humility.

what else do you expect? there was a concerted effort to gentrify 4chan. you can't even fucking announce sage anymore. we were lucky enough that net 2.0 cancer was managed to be staved off so long in the first place.

The nonstop fascist stuff thats been cropping up is just the normal desire for people to syncretize their interests, in this case right-wing politics with fashion. Its the "alt-rights" desire to create a uniform to identify with and with which to signal their status to their peers. Ontologically, its no different than lunarcore or vaporwaves attempts to introduce, or find inspiration in, sci-fi / avant-garde music to fashion.

Reddit crossposting newcunts think they can waltz onto a board and simply find a "subreddit" (i.e. a general) which they can use as an all purpose chatroom, rather than scrolling through to browse through each thread.

I've just been here since 2013; since then there's been 1000 threads about how great /fa/ used to be. But what people describe is even more normie than the board is now, fulfilling an r/mfa role of basic fashion advice (see >>11637653 ).

Just look at >>11639072 and you'll see that the average poster is over 18. That's not any worse than other boards on the site. /fa/, as it stands, is a place for fashion related shitposting and banter. Jesus christ, nobody told you to lurk every thread. I haven't opened a /fa/ cigarettes thread in years. But there's always some good inspo threads in the catalogue, and during show weeks there's always a few discussion threads. I for one am happy that the age is younger than r/mfa, threads about chinos and wingtips and raws are far worse in my book than skate inspo or /fa/ cell phones. /fa/ is not the greatest place on the internet, but keep your expectations reasonable and its not a bad way to spend 10 minutes.

6 years ago fashion was more like a rare hobby, you know, collecting coins for example and teenagers were interested in Runescape and Counter Strike at that time. Now every teenager collects coins, it's trendy, it's cool, it's popular. Just look who camps outside Supreme, Palace stores, it's either kids/teenagers or resellers. 'Streetwear' brands and media made IT popular, now every kid at school wants Yeezys instead of Gameboy. You can't blame them though, it is how it is.
