Hello /fa/, I'm here to try to do one thing: save /fa/. Pigfuck failed, so I'm going to try my best.

Basically, I think /fa/ is at a low point in terms of board quality and fits. I believe that this is partly due to fashion becoming more mainstream and accepted as an interest for males, so there are lots of normies flooding the board. These newfags don't know a lot about fashion, but under the guise of anonymity, anyone can seem like they know what they are talking about, and it's believable. This leads to a cycle of people giving and following advice in threads like the fuccboi general or cop or not, when none of that is necessarily true.

I think that another reason this board has become so lame is a lack of originality. Everyone wants to come here and learn to dress better, so they imitate popular styles and take advice from people who don't necessarily know what they are talking about, and everyone ends up looking the same. Inevitably, there are always people who adopt the next meme style too, and their fits go from inspo to cringe by the time the next fad has moved in.

Another problem with /fa/ is the quality of discussion. I know that this is a 4chan board, but the average post quality here is just awful. When people comment on a fit in the WAYWT, if they like it, they should say why. If they don't, they should say what doesn't work about it. A comment of just "shit" has never helped anyone. In addition, we should be mindful of how to argue. The sticky on /pol/ that talks about logical fallacies should be stickied here. People tend to get into huge arguments here that devolve into namecalling and shitposting.

So what do we do to improve the board? I say we get rid of the cop or not, and actually try to follow the "talk shit, post fit" rule. We should also get rid of cringe threads, as they create a hostile environment where people see unique (not necessarily good) fits getting bashed, and are thereby discouraged from experimenting on their own.

As for the discussions and arguments, people need to back up their arguments with facts, pictures, whatever. When 2 people get into a huge argument about, say, if raf or helmut is a better designer, now it is just shitposting and namecalling. However, if the 2 debaters posted pics with each post and wrote specifically why they believe that their preferred designer has a greater artistic value, then anyone reading will learn from both arguers. We shouldn't seek to win the argument by shitting on what another has to say, but pointing out the real flaws in what they have to say, and building your own comprehensive argument at the same time. Also, don't be afraid to admit that you were wrong. It's a fucking anonymous board, it doesn't matter.

As for developing a unique style, forget about the internet, and Fashion in general. Just wear what you want to, whatever looks cool to you, in whatever way you want, and it will work because it's you wearing it. Just don't look at fits as a costume, but rather a reflection of you. And if you can't do this, you're probably not cut out for fashion in the first place, and you're probably in it for the wrong reasons.

This is true. By the nature of having a trip, people automatically assumed that that person knew what they were talking about, and luckily, most of those trips did. They left, though, because they saw the devolution of board culture even years ago, and left. I don't think that this board is beyond saving, but at the moment the future for /fa/ doesn't look bright.

/fa/'s problem is, and has always been, that it's full of losers who see fashion as a way to become cool. That's where the absurd amount of bandwagonning comes from, and that's why it's impossible for anyone with knowledge and style and fresh ideas to get any traction here: when you're posing, you have to pick your style and boost the hell out of it and shit on everything else to validate your coolness, and then make rules and be a gatekeeper because that's what cool people do, right? Right?

Then you get bored of it and dump it and shit on it and find something new to be a whore for.

The go-to example is always Poet: in the space of a few months, he went from that weird guy who made overly long posts with sci fi paintings, to a guy trying to create a style that was meaningful to him, to some kind of /fa/ hero with threads full of people buying grey palladiums and whatever cheap shit they could find that was white and had lots of pockets and on the other side people shitting on him because they had some other horse in the race to be internet cool.

So I don't hold out much hope of that ever changing. I come here for inspo threads, when they're not full of the same shit as last week.

Well, yeah, there's a huge difference. Cringe threads are fine. There's a reason the fits are "cringeworthy." From what I see, people do explain why the fits are bad (aside from the meme images that everyone's already seen). Maybe not in the original posting of the image, but at least in the replies.

What would improve /fa/? Keep the bait/meme threads to a minimum. I don't want to get rid of them (after all, what is 4chan without such kinds of threads?), but spamming the same shit again and again should be a bannable offense. Work on/update the sticky, so that people asking basic advice like "what do I wear with all-white converse" can be told to consult that. Not necessarily to end discussion at that point, but at least to provide a baseline of knowledge for all posters so that actual discussion could evolve from there.

I my self am torn on the issue in multiple ways. On one hand it feels gratifying giving some fashion incompetent retard advice and seeing them slowly progress, but on the other its worrying as it makes you think if anyone else on this board know what they're doing. The second issue being this a strictly fashion board. I can understand people on here being pissed off for semi off topic threads, but on the other hand I find it interesting to discuss life and other interest with people who have a common interest as me: fashion

being in a smaller suburban community you are quite limited in terms of people who share the same passion for clothes so its great to share insight from those across the internet. the main reason I came here was to get information on brands which there was plenty and im quite grateful for. aside all that 4chan never fails to make me laugh so i think thats the reason why i continue to return here every day. Im also quite interested in fashion from a historical perspective, and leads me to wonder my biggest question right now: whats going to be the next in thing? I mean undercuts have lost they're control for a bit now so im curios to what style and trend will take hold next.

I will agree that janitors are in collusion with a lot of the issues we have today, I posted as much in a larger piece earlier in the thread. However I don't think "Reddit" "tumblr" or "sjw" are concepts anywhere coherent enough to base an action plan out of.
