Those are very clearly not common projects so don't worry about that.

However, outside of sneakers if you want that contrast sole you would want to look into crepe sole derbies, as they give a similar look. If you aren't looking to spend too much these are kinda hard to find as it's more of a niche product.

Really the main issue with derbies is that unless you like the often recommended cheap options (see: docs / red wings) it's very hard to find low priced quality shoes, they're the one thing I've had to commit to saving up for since a great deal did not pop up even after months of looking, although I am quite picky.

It's a new area for me - can you recommend some good black derbies for this budget that's not too shiny?

By the way - how to pull them off? Socks or no socks? Cuffed jeans or no?

What specific details are you interested in and what is your expectation of quality, is it just good materials or do you need to know that someone truly skilled made it (very hard to find for that price), also do you only want to buy new or do you want to look second hand?

I would prefer new as I'm not too much into 2nd hand footwear. If it's in good condition and it's a steal I won't mind tho.

It doesn't have to be associated with a designer or something, materials, quality and longevity is the most important.

Well outside of great sales which you'd just have to look out for $220 is a very low buy in for derbies, material quality for that price will almost always be sub-par. The obvious two in this case are always docs (as low as $100) or red wings, the latter of which can actually still even be over 220 at normal retail prices.

For sales I'd personally recommend finding outlets which stock yuketen, and lad musician which are both cheap enough to be affordable on sale, also any italian shoemaker that actually has roots in shoemaking history will obviously be of a decent quality if you can find any of those on sale, but you gotta be wary of brands which plaster themselves with italian heritage without actually having earned any of it.

Second hand there are some cool options depending on the style you're interested in.

Marsell derbies like this go for crazy cheap more often than you'd think for example. If you can venture into japanese sites, comme des garcons is also incredibly cheap, and their shoes regularly drop below 200.

Great derbies for that price is doable, but requires some effort, although keeping in mind that most respectable brands who do shoes will make a black derby it's not too difficult to overcome.

If u love prada creeper you could buy the fabrixquare version, is affordable and haves good quality. Also, no socks with cuffed jeans and socks in winter or whatever, these kind of shoes are really versatile
