in america they're just a very common, pleb tier shoe brand. almost like sketchers. i used to have a pair of new balance gym shoes for school (family was poor so no nikes for me). I still use them to mow the lawn in. often times homeless people can be seen wearing ratty new balances. also common as an orthopaedic shoes for grandpa and grandma

they have a reputation as a plebtier budget shoe. often found on smelly, calloused feet in flyover towns
