What's the general consensus on the American and British prep, and on the Italian sprezzatura styles?

Italian spezzatura is much more appealing due to the authentacy of the origins, which is undeniable /fa/

How old should you be to wear it though? Most people I see are well into their 30s and 40s

I think if you're moderately tan and have mediterranean features combined with taking good care of yourself ( a good body - low body fat with some muscle - good skin and hair ) you can provably get away with it if you're younger.

Or you can just rock some sort of nautical preppy style untill then. That's exactly what I'm doing atm. It sucks not seeing this type of aesthetic on /fa/. I feel as if this board has just turned to memes and shitposting disregarding everything else as dadcore and reddit crap.

yeah pretty much, funny how /fa/ was all about this style around 2009-2010 and then that faggot came and started spamming "dadcore" 24/7 as it wasn't even a term yet

what is sad is some people ONLY use /fa/ as their source of fashion tips so their perception of what is "good" and "accepted" fashion is VERY skewed to /fa/'s tastes

you sure?

2009-2010 /fa/ was about cdbs chinos selvedge obd sweater
basically workwear smart casual mfa-lite
none sprezzatura
if you think there was you have a very different image of sprezzatura...

>> No.9982316

>>9981094
It needs to be toned down a bit. The sprezzatourettes on display at the Sartorialist and (to a lesser extent) A Continuous Lean is really grating. A little insouciance goes a long way.

again, you seem to have a very different concept of menswear and sprezz
are you referring to the 2009 tumblr trend in its literal sense

then it's not what I, or op are referring to

this is /fa/ slash lookbook 2010
this is not sprezz menswear prep

>> No.9982360

>>9982334
>>9982317
/fa/ has always had an image vs. reality rift, so whatever. The fact remains the board was talking about sprezzatura positively as early as 2009, like the rest of the internet.

>> No.9982414

>>9982360
the board in the past had as many threads "talking positively" about the style as it does now
as in once in a blue moon

so yeah, /fa/ weren't "all about this style", not significantly more than now no

all of this unnecessary backpedaling, could have been avoided if you didn't try to bullshit at the start

>> No.9982437

>>9982414
I wasn't backpedaling. It was talked about more then.

>> No.9983167

I think that ideally, one should develop their own personal style by first straying away from all the memes and trend hopping, look at different designers and their styles, gather a few personal favourites and go from there taking a step back every now and then and asking themselves if they think they look good on the eyes on others who see them on the street etc. to avoid looking like a lunatic.

In the end you should provably end up with some sort of british prep / french chic for winter with some interesting statement designer pieces or two and some sort of american prep or sprezzatura for summer.

What are you trying to accomplish with these posts? Would you like recognition as an older poster? Does this give you a feeling of validation? Roll out the red carpet, oldfag coming through.

>newfags spewing shit as if they had been there
This isn't Vietnam or some shit. It's a fashion board. It doesn't matter.

The other dude's point, which is true, is that /fa/ used to appreciate menswear more than they do now.

it matters when it comes to setting facts straight

a lot of people like to reminisce about the good old days
they paint up these imaginary pictures of past /fa/, while regurgitating second-had information about cooltop kafka or whathaveyou they hear from the likes of sieg

most of them aren't true
old /fa/ weren't great, and they weren't "more" about menswear, unless you count gap chinos uq obds as menswear

some thought otherwise because they were surrounded by the few threads echoing gothninja during 2011 2012
but the amount of appreciation for menswear, what little of it, has been the same all these years

>they paint up these imaginary pictures of past /fa/, while regurgitating second-had information about cooltop kafka or whathaveyou they hear from the likes of sieg
Accurate.

Old /fa/ had as many issues as current /fa/. We just kinda forget over time about the shit and remember the good stuff, like the large number of personalities.

>> No.9986327

>>9986301
that's the thing
to most people here, chinos, ocbds, and cdbs are 'menswear' because everyone here dickrides dark streetwear

regardless, what does 'setting the facts straight' about whether menswear used to be a thing here even matter?
really has no bearing on the present
