So I have a question for the few people here that own a sewing machine.

Is it worth buying one?
Do you use it for anything other than simple stuff like tapering and hemming?
The 200 or so dollars it would take to get one and some stuff for it wouldn't exactly break me but I don't really need another white elephant in my house.

you can buy a solid quality sewing machine for personal use for not even $60 usd

i have one and i'm pretty glad i got it. i used it ever so often. i got mine as a present from my mom (she found that a proper girl needs a sewing machine...). maybe you can get a used one for cheap? you can always sell it again if you don't use it and it takes away too much space.

When I've felt an urge to do something creative with fabrics i've loved having one, it's not that often but it's not like they're a huge investment.

I use mine to patch / reinforce my clothing decently often. Also use mine for other craft stuff, it's nice to have around as an option if you're at all interested in that sort of thing.

How to start making your own clothes?
Does anyone has some nice websites or Youtube channels for beginners. How did you learn it?
If I search for tutorials I only find shit like this and I instantly loose my motivation.

sewing machines are the best investment if you´re really into fashion, to the extent of garment manipulation and creation, usually modern domestic sewing machines are very useful because they can do lots of stitches and some even embroidery

if you plan on making simple garment manipulations a machine that only makes single stitch would do it but as i said, most of modern domestic machines have multpiple stitches so you can even make quality garments from scrap

i have pic related, i love it even tho it only has single stitch and is at least half a century old, very reliable tho

start with making your bodice pattern m8, i used this link for mine, you can literally make any top out of it, ofc you will need to design the final pattern blocks to turn a simple bodice into a garment
