Top or bottom jacket? I like both, but could /fa/ sway my opinion? I have to return one of them.

Both cost the same. Both made by the same designer. Same style/season too as far as I know. The only difference being about an inch in chest length and the material. One is made of thicker denim while the other is softer and more blue in color.

People tell me sometimes that I look better with facial hair than without. I checked the sticky, and re: beards that place is desolate.
My questions:
1. How do I figure out if a beard really does look good on me or not?
2. How do I grow and maintain a beard so I don't look like a scruffy fuck? What kind of trimmers/razors should I be getting?
3. Lastly, and this is probably the least important question, but what kind of beard types should I consider? My facial hair grows pretty uniformly, so thankfully it seems like I'll have my pick of options.

Here's a picture of a man with a bearded vulture for your trouble.

Beardy here. There's no easy answers here. 90% of /fa/ will hate on beards because they're tiny boys with not enough testosterone to grow one, but a lot of it will come down to your care of it like your regular hair (shampoo, leave-in conditioner, hair oil, gel if necessary) and your face and body type. One thing that may help you out a lot is becoming really knowledgeable in haircare. The rest is figuring out what shape beards go with your body and face shape.

Thanks. I've been meaning to learn more about hair care for a while now, but it seems to vary wildly depending on hair type etc. The lady who cuts my hair told me that I only ever needed to shampoo for some reason, for example, and it seems to work all right, but I've never seen anybody else on here advocate dropping conditioner in any cases except for full-on no-poo.
Could I at least get some advice on what kind of tools I'll need? Obviously, if I do grow it out I'll need to maintain it, like you said, and as of now all I have are disposable razor heads and this thing, which comes with a little trimmer on the back (but I don't know how good it is.)
Thanks for the advice so far.

Dark blue jeans and khakis are definitely the go-to for these shoes. Just wear them - the leather itself is pretty casual as it is.

>>9937986
I would go for cap toe, if only because it is more traditional. No cap toe is nice, but I prefer to leave that style to other shoes (e.g. chelsea boots, etc). You can't really go wrong with either style, though.

>>9938732
Ehh, they are a hair dressy, but with the right jeans and shirt, absolutely.

>>9939333
Not unworkable. Brown and blue go well together, so some combination thereof would be fine. I mean, I'm not sure how it'd look unless I tried it on, but dark jeans are an obvious candidate. I could see this jacket working really well with some awesome layering in the winter.

>>9939342
Bit of an obnoxious print, but that's okay. I'd personally pair this with khaki or lighter tones, trying to screw around with the oldschool navy blazer + khakis style. I just wouldn't compete with it with many other patterns.

I normally advocate leave-in conditioners, but I think that's because I have a slightly wavy hair type and it helps with the post-wash period until your hair's own oil returns. (same with the hair oil)

Also most beard oils are a joke. Just about any oil works. Even canola oil and vegetable oil works surprisingly enough. Certain hair oils have other benefits though.

You can do no-poo if you want, I normally wash my hair every 2-4 days, it's just that many hair specialists recommend the conditioner after the poo due to the hair's fragile state after being washed. (similar to when you wash your skin, moisturizing lotion should be applied to protect your vulnerable skin)

What you trim it with is less of a concern really unless you going for short beard, stubble, or something like a holywoodian goatee. Once your beard reaches a medium length it grows much slower and maintenance becomes less of an issue. Having nicer tools to control it is nice, but by and large they accomplish the same thing. Getting experience shaping it would be more important.

massive

idiot

first off you broke a cardinal rule for newfags, never try and wear TWO patterns at the same time. This creates a "clash" and is extremely off-putting to the eyes.

also that blazer is obviously thrifted, throw it away or take it to a tailor, but i would throw it away because even if you take it to a tailor it will take a more "advanced" user to find things to wear with it.

also burn that shirt.

stop buying shit with patterns on it like that.

buy plain

if you NEED to buy patterns go for timeless designs

FUCK

>> No.9941692

thank you for the quick reply. I didn't burn the shirt, I just put it back in the drawer and lit my drawer on fire.

Yeah I would start buy just buying plain shirts first..

DO NOT buy patterns, yet.

And by "timeless" patterns I mean gingham, houndstooth, seersucker, blackwatch tartan (check), etc. (caveat: NEVER WEAR ARGYLE)

google these names to find the pattern. You've seen these patterns over thousand times in your life I guarantee it. They are timeless because they have been used cyclically 200+ years

anyway if you don't have one I HIGHLY suggesting buying an Oxford Clothe Button Down (OCBD) first. A plain one.
Pic related, make sure buttons on the collar. If you are looking for cheap, GAP/Banana Republic makes some nice ones.

Also go to the mall. Go to GAP, Banana, or Nordstrom and ask a sales associate for hep.

Tell them you're fresh to this and need help making an outfit, they will totally help you out.

>> No.9944670

A little-knonn Lost Boys soundtrack produced by A Tribe Called Quest, that was all but erased from history when Joel Schumacher decided to radically change the film's direction. First pitched as 'Lost Tribe' (from which the name 'A Tribe Called Quest' was derived), a vampire film about post-colonial vampires and their conflicts with modern black vampires in Los Angeles, it was to feature the jazzy rap stylings of Q-Tip, Phife Dawg, and Ali Shaheed Muhammad. The soundtrack album, only about halfway complete by the time it was scrapped, would be drastically reworked into A Tribe Called Quest's first album, People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm. In the liner notes, the name 'Lucien' can be found, which is a reference to the character Lucien (the basis for David in the completed film), an inside joke among ATCQ for his ridiculous dialogue.

Is there a way to know if a pair of sunglasses is legit and not just dark plastic? I want to buy some zeroUV shades on amazon but I am paranoid they'll be counterfeit or something.

Also how to clark's originals fit? I wear a 9.5 in Vans.

Tons of ideas here:
http://www.sunglasswarehouse.com/blog/polarization-test/

But the general rule of thumb is to avoid copping sunglasses from eBay, and especially foreign sellers on eBay.

Clarks Originals fit true to size, at least in my experience.

The thing is, the cheap ass ebay shades don't even advertise the shades as being polarized, they just tell about the UV protection and making UV protection 400 shades is cheap as fuck and they really have no reason to not sell glasses with enough protection for your eyes because of that.
Even polarized lenses aren't exactly expensive, you can get some like 20 bucks or something these days.

What do you guys feel about generic prep / menswear?
I've been getting seriously into fashion for about half a year now. I've gradually developped a personal style which is pretty much slp / french chic with some minimalist fun colorful pieces blended into it. I've been thinking about switching to a more prep style though.

This comes mostly from observing people. I mean, if an average person sees someone draped in full rick or techwear gear he'll just come off as someone who's not that well adjusted. I feel as if when I dress in lighter colors, in more traditional stuff, people tend to treat me much differently and I still manage to stand out in a crowd, even more so I think.

Should I make the switch? Is it just dad/wealthcore? Where can I get some inspo for this?

It's my style, more or less. It gets a lot of hate on here, and for good reason, but I find it works well in almost all contexts. Like, if you are in a position where you sometimes have to care what people think and those people aren't other college students or something, it's a good direction to go.

What do people think about shorts on guys with hairy legs?

I'm 6'5 and about 122lbs right now, and I've got really scraggly looking hair on my legs, but I only ever wear jeans, so that may be the cause of scragglyness.

Can shorts look good on guys with hairy legs?

Also, I don't own a single pair of shorts at the moment, didn't get any in the last two years, living in Canada I only need them in the summer.
Can anyone recommend a few good pairs of shorts?
