I really don't like this kinda look with lot of tiny colorful round patches at all. I think they really look good on backpacks in moderation or maybe having a single somewhere on your jacket.
Bigger patches and square patches look so much better.

I agree those are examples of overkill. When a decide to patch something I usually just put something on the shoulder of a jacket, maybe on one of the pockets. Never more than two though. Kind of depends on the patches themselves as well. Decently multiple embroidered patches look better than a bunch of screenprinted "crust" patches imo.

I got the alpha industries x uo fishtail in green, its a basic canvas fishtail if you haven't seen it

I am considering putting some version of this poster on the entire back of the parka.. not sure if I want to do patches (would probably go crust style white on black) or stencil. would potentially move/remove the text and/or face from the design depending where it falls on the parka

thoughts?

The washed out pattern adds to the patch imo. It's just that the jacket'll probably be too long and wide, bringing it dangerously close to "metalhead throwing patches on naything" territory. Which is why back patches look good on varsity jackets and bombers I guess, because the modern variations arealways somewhat fitted.

I kinda got an idea for patches. This picture on the back, "No words" patch on the left sleeve, "No thoughts" on the right one. Totally not jacking Raf's style, but I think it would look cool.

i have way too many. two of them i've worn once, and the one with the eagle on it i just took all the patches off.

the dark denim with the Social Distortion patch is my main one, i'm still working on it, but ive got a few DIY patches i've made on the front.

the camo one is a project i'm going to start after, i've got some more patches i'm ready to stitch on there.

the light denim with the Bikini Kill patch is for a friend of mine, i'll post the front, but be warned, i did make her a feminist patch for it.

The hyperview patch looks stupid tbh. A band like Title Fight doesn't translate too something as low-tech as DIY patches all too well. Especially considering they painted that design on a wall in reflective paint. It would look better heat transfered onto a 3M jacket or something.

I've skimmed all the old threads, there's a ton of links to etsy stores, ebay pages and bigcartels in there. Problem is you'll need to make up for yourself what it is you want. Patches come in a variety of ranges. Nasa and crust stuff is just the tip of the iceberg imo.

Patches would look allright on it but you'll have to make sure not to overdo it. Maybe a patch on the shoulder, one on a pocket and call it a day. Black and white or grayscale patches only, full color would look of on such a dark parka.

Aside from the vintage ralph fits, I've only seen I think 2 original posts here where people have done that, the other was varsity jacket and the other was some sorta bomber thing with hood and the patches were different and the jackets had way different looks, don't have the pics saved tho.
And really big patch on the back looks good with lot of other shit, you don't have to copy the ralph jacket, some dude sewed the cross stitch rose to a jacket and it was pretty dope. I think SLP had jacket kinda like that with flower motif embroidery.

I think skull could be good but on a black jacket it's just too much. Something that looks like sorta hand drawn or something could be cool, Misfits logo esque one maybe.
Also I think when you do one big patch on the back of a jacket I think decorating the graphic with smaller ones or text or something can work if you do it tastefully.
