A vintage slacker/work wear look is in right now in California. Slim jeans with classic converse and a denim or work jacket will be enough to get you by with most people thinking you are cool. Keep the facial hair within a few days growth and keep the hair shaggy but short or shoulder length. Get a tan pair of slimfit dickies pants and and baseball T-shirt while you're at it.
