This. Taking care of my curls really did wonders to my self esteem, never got so many compliments on my hair. Before that i used to buzz my hair out of pure laziness, but i really didn't have the features to pull it off. To be honest, most (white) men with curly hair either shave it or let it grow into an unkept jewfro, and that's why pretty curly hair is uncommon to see on a daily basis, making it even more special.

Never shampoo your curls. They will dry out.
I use conditioner, brush (not comb), argan oil and then let it air dry. Keeps it thick and wavy, instead of frizzy and stiff.

God damn it.

All my life I've always had short hair. Zero on the sides, you know the deal.

Decide it's finally time for change and spent six months growing my hair out. I never knew how curly my hair was and how fucking awesome it looks. Spend weeks looking up different kinds of styles and for the first time in a long time I actually become pretty excited about my hair.


Today finally decided to go to a stylists to trim the neck area since it was getting pretty bushy.

Tell her what I want and she has a hard time understanding what I'm trying to communicate with her so I show her a photo.

And boom

she fucking shaves it all off with the blasted trimmers.

And then when she is finally done with the sides, she starts chopping off the top off too.

Man that was the worst hair cut experience in my life.

I never really could empathize with people when they would get mad when their stylist would mess up their hair, seeing that I've always had super short hair, but now I totally can relate to them and I'm pretty devastated. Half a year down the drain. Now I'm back to short hair. And the longest of the hairs on top don't even curl no more.

Ive been struggling with school, and I've been depressed for a good year now and growing this hair and maintaining it helped with some of the depression because I was trying to find a new me and I was finding the new me. And now I lost that too, yes I know hair grows back. But now I'm back to where I was. I look the same and feel the same again, like shit.

I'm so mad, and sad at the same time.

Fuck!

Now to start growing it again.

All I wanted was to trim down the back a little. Not fucking cut everything off! Man... I went in excited and left depressed.


And this is the perfect analogy. I work hard on something and someone fucks it up and now I have to deal with it. Same with school. And that's why I'm dropping out...

First time on /fa/ today, and this is relevant to my interests. I have curly hair, and no idea what to do with it. My head size puts me off growing it, feel like it just mushrooms around my nut and makes me look rediculous, but I live in a small town where the hairdressers aren't exactly inovative, and all the barbers know is short back and sides.. the shaver is always buzzing before your ass hits the chair. Pressing the towel aginst your hair will take away the excess water but you run the risk of losing size. Be careful there.

Havent tried many productos myself, but pomades usually leave it heavy and greasy looking with thin curls.

I let my curls go out sometimes, but shorter is better. The grease in my hair makes the curls look great. but shit you gotta squeeze the grease out with your fingers.

aveda's be curly is good. the conditioner is great. the after leave in treatment sucks your curls really tight. hate teh sticky feel tho.

How do I reliably get my hair to look like a slightly more managed and in control version of this? Full disclosure: I'm balding and have thin hair that basically lays down completely flat with (most) product in it, or turns into a frizzy mess when left on its own.

Also, I had my hair relaxed in early April/late March and now I have a ton of dandriff/skin peeling at my hairline. Any tips to prevent it when I inevitably get it relaxed again? Unfortunately not relaxing it isn't an option. I'm half black but my hair follicles think I'm the niggest nignog to ever nig.
