Seriously, I'm somewhat new here, and I'm considering getting some new clothes, but I see some of the stuff you guys post, and HOLY SHIT are they expensive. Maybe it's just because I'm a pleb, but I honestly can't justify, like, $100 for a pair of jeans, or a T-shirt, or something. Perhaps one day I'll understand.

But I am curious: How much does your stuff cost? Pretty much everything I own now is really plebby, simple stuff (aka jeans and some T-shirt from UNIQLO or Muji), so maybe other than shoes, it's pretty cheap. I have some miscellaneous coats and jackets for winter but they aren't that expensive, either.

How much does your current fit cost now, /fa/? How much money have you already dumped into your wardrobe/closet? I am very interested to know.

You are overlooking the quality versus quantity element present in fashion. Simple things like t shirts and socks you can get on the cheap and relatively in bulk but if you invest in better quality outerwear you get a superior item that you will wear more often with less clutter. Most people's wardrobes (myself included) contain shit they will not where for months at a time with no seasonal justification. A lot of that can be cut down and when you crunch the math it adds up. Cutt out 3x20$ HM cardigans and use that towards something better. The other issue is a lot of newbies to fashion do not understand the reward of dressing well. They figure their balls and pasty buttcheeks are covered so they are good. They strive to be adequate instead of something admirable or good. This is largely a product of the market throwing Walmart shit in the public's face and calling it designer wear and people genuinely believing it is good quality when, in actuality, it is made in Bangledesh for $0.05.

>> No.9841941

the most I spend is on American apparel, so imagine $200 for 3 Oxford shirts or 2 pairs of pants. I'm lucky to shop at the warehouse in dtla or I'd be spending more. Jackets and shoes I buy pretty cheaply online.. usually $40-50 for each.

If you don't care about current season stuff you pretty much just wait around for sales or buy second hand. The thing you need to remember about fashion too OP is that if you care for it, it retains value really well, in some cases even selling for MORE than you bought it for.

Also if fashion isn't your hobby there's no need for you to justify spending that much unless you find a piece you really like for that much.

agreeing with the general consensus here: invest in boots & outerwear. I was constantly re-buying shitting mall-tier boots every season until investing in something like LL Bean, quality difference is tangible even if you're pleb.

some sweaters/knits are worth investing in, too, as long as you're paying for quality & not the branding (i.e., Our Legacy is worth the money, Acne is not)

you can grab great denim on sale online & you will notice the difference. $100 is not a lot to spend on a pair of jeans, especially when you can nab Naked & Famous or Nudie for less than that pretty regularly

And also the quality as some people pointed out. I used to think the same until I handled my first "designer" piece I bought brand new on the cheap. They were just simple cotton pants and was $70 for something that retails for $300.

Holy shit the difference in material. That and I realized how much most people spend on average mall stuff is actually comparable to buying designer shit.

Also with the later you buy less, so you have a good focus with your wardrobe instead of being all over the place and have a better chance in dressing with things that work together instead of throwing on random pieces of clothing.

For my entire wardrobe I would say maybe $2000 (including outerwear, shoes) I think for a lot of people around here fashion is kind of like a hobby, they care about it a lot so they are willing to invest money into it.

You don't have to spend hundreds and thousands of dollars, you can look good for a relatively small amount of money. If you want to wear avant garde stuff or wear very unique clothing then it will cost you.

It's like with anything, if you really want it you will save up and get it, if not, that's okay too.

The most fashionable people that I've seen IRL buy their clothes from thrift stores. Designer cloths are for people without a sense of fashion.

It's like name brand computers vs home built. Yes you can buy a nice alienware for 2000 or a mac for 3000, but you can get better parts for a fraction of the cost by assembling it yourself.

In the same vein, if you know what you're doing you can go into the thrift store, buy some clothing made with quality material, fit it yourself or have it tailored and for less than $20 be way more /fa/ than some doofus like the guys on this board that blow $500 on pants that don't even fit properly.

Look, I get outerwear and shoes being expensive, but why would you shell that much for a T-shirt?

I'm not particularly /fa/, I guess. I keep it simple, and more expensive brands I usually grab from a discount store. I don't actually look for expensive brands, the stores I go to just put their tag over the tag from the previous store, so I know the original prices.

A $70 pair of Nikes is the most expensive thing I wear.

I agree, I have a few James Perse shirts and they are just super nice plain tee-shirts.

I prefer them because they have a "looser" silhouette yet not too extreme.

H&M makes some really nice clothes for teens, like the $50 denim shirts and the $65 thick solid colored cardigans are nice

problem is everyone buys those $10 and under things from H&M

I started hoarding acne aces once I realized they are perfect for me. I'd cop some used, others brand new. Right now I own 7 pairs of acne aces, 4 stay cash and 3 of the regular ones. Copped all of them for under $120, copped 2 for $80 each, so no regrets. Now I'm hoarding oxford shirts, then it'll be shoes, and my wardrobe will be complete.

If it's dope I'll buy it. I have sneakers that retail for over $300 and vans that retail for $45, $100 rag and bone tees and $20 J.crew tees.

Usual fit I wear

>J.Crew tee $25

>Rag and Bone shorts $160

>Brooks Brothers/J.Crew Belt $50

>Rainbows Flip flops $50

>CK boxer briefs $25

Total retail $310

I wait for really good sales on everything though, paying full retail is dumb unless its 100% what you want and will be satisfied with.

From my experience, it's basically impossible to buy from canada just cause they don't ship to Canada and furthermore with their american site, you need an american credit card to purchase with. So I just gave up and got my uniqlo stuff from asia.
