Just starting an ecommerce website, got limited inventory at the moment but there will be big things to come. http://dont-sleep.org/

What do you think? Any potential cops? Asking some steals of prices and no tax.

a lot is deadstock, i've got some worn in rick/raf to put in just haven't done it yet.

mostly the reason 4 small inventory is because i'm doing this 100% myself and am not sure on how to secure wholesale stockists.

there will never be a need for your 'ecommerce' read; 'secondhand clothing vendor' because ebay and grailed exist, there is no impetus for people to use your store unless you're offering something no one else does, which is more than unlikely, and even if you did have an exclusive item or two, you can't maintain that.

itll just be another donttalkclothing affair.

All those points don't mean shit. We don't know you, and your extremely limited "currated product" range gets trumped by the sheer volume of grailed and ebay amongst other sites

You're doing the exact same thing while bitching about the system that already exists

Simpler transactions my ass.

Anybody want to buy this archival scotch and soda sweater? I'm selling it on grailed right now. Try finding it anywhere else. I fucking dare you.

b-but it's only been up for a day, it isn't even completed.
bitching about what i'm asking for feedback.
grailed doesn't take credit cards and you don't have to contact individual sellers each time.

would you still use grailed or ebay if it were more expensive?
any actual suggestions?

>> No.9837533

don't really like the layout of the clothes. they are too big. don't like the dark background either on those

>> No.9837539

btw OP the website design is nice, and if you've done it yourself its a commendable achievement, but its not going to go anywhere. ebay and now - thankfully- grailed have a monopoly on this market.

while there is stores like guyinconsignment, eg-co etc. they're consignment based, and i dont think they're doing too well now either, consignment of used designer goods will become less and less necessary as selling the clothes yourself is becoming easier and easier.

you're really gaining nothing by having your own website, grailed has 50k registered users and something like 100k visits a day, ebay obviously more than that. how can you compete with that? how can you ever hope to reach that amount of people? you can't and won't.

if you had a very exclusive product and a LOT of stock you could curate a small but loyal customer base like endyma has done, but even they had to resort to ebay eventually, and while they were successful at their inception due to the 'wow' factor, once all the best stock goes it becomes hard to restock, interest wanes and you're left with 50% of your shit remaining with no one buying, so you inevitably put it non ebay and grailed, which you couldve done anyway and made more money.

the only benefit to a store like this the illusion of professionalism, thus you might be able to justify charging higher prices, ln-cc did this with during their 2013 archive sale, but again that comes down to the stock, ln-cc had a lot of dope shit, you don't, and the site is certainly nothing more than secondhand shit to anyone viewing it.

even IF you had an amazing initial drop(you dont), once the best of it is all gone, you can never sustain a steady intake of grail tier stock when it comes to archival pieces.

take a look at donttalk clothing, they've spent god knows how much on that start up and nothing has sold, and little will.

I also admire your ambition OP. What you need to do is find your own niche. Take this guy for example
http://chemicaldenim.bigcartel.com/
He takes designer clothes, and he rips the shit out of them, dyes them, and patches. Some people will argue that it's stupid and a waste of money, but theres a market for it and he's doing better than anyone else. Find your niche, OP.

i'll hit you up you seem to really grasp what i'm looking to get out of this.

I agree with all your points and thankfully I am not doing this for a career. As stated in the website footer it's a project to me. I'm 19 and in school learning economics. This is just business and work experience to me (even if i don't make a cent) the financials don't matter.

Im with you, if I was looking to sell quick and get top $ i'd use ebay or grailed, but this is an outlet for my hobbies put together.

Your example of donttalk was good, never seen it before, they using shopify (a subscription service) and probably have a few people repping that as their "career", they're high cost high risk. [it looks like they've sold a bit though]

I find literal personal risk in my site, the domain cost me $9 to renew for a year and the payment service is free, the rest just takes free time.

Even if it expires past the year or I don't sell a single item i'm content with just the experience.

First reply wasnt me. I had a look again at least you got your legal shit covered. Not sure how you guys do it over in Canada but IMO you can expand that bit to cover your ass in case anything happens.

If you're going to actually currate your stuff probably move away from making money out of your own wardrobe. Get a grasp of things that actually interest you. Suspension point CA does an excellent job of currating their stuff and target a specific target market/style. In that sense they offer a unique "product" beyond grailed and ebay.

Credit card transactions are messy and quite honestly quite off putting. Theres good reaso. That paypal is a thriving business in e-commerce cz they help guarantee buyer protection. The last thing i wanna deal with after a massive cop is to deal with my bank if anything turns to shit.

Design is very tumblr/muh alternative/artistic tastes but not much i could say about it. You could work on that more once you figure out your stock items.

Also invest in a decent camera and get a good space for product shots. Honestly i dont particularly find the items very appealing in terms of presentation, and the atmosphere feels dank overall
