I love this question!

Why does Rick Owens fuck so hard with mono or "memeo" chrome as people call it?

Why does our culture want everyone to look exactly the same and be as inoffensive as possible?

How does that relate to the struggle for individual self expression?

Why is black the color of mourning?

Are their others ways to look as though you are in mourning?

Why do I want to look as though I'm in mourning?

Am I in mourning?

I have a few loud pieces such as a Coogi sweater. As you grow up you tend to not want to wear that kind of stuff. Wearing colorful stuff is situational.

Because most people on /fa/ can't think for themselves and are insecure. Picking all black and white can't really go wrong colourwise.

Just look at all the ''s-s-should i buy this internet my internet comunity?''

They're loud and gaudy more often than not. Particularly on white people this washes us out, your clothes become the thing people see, not you. Your clothes should frame you, make you look your best and highlight your best features. Wearing loud, fancy clothing to peacock rather than letting the fit, cut and your personality show is like putting a bodykit on a shit car - some people think it looks awesome, but they usually have poor taste and it will never compare to a genuinely beautiful car. It's the same with clothes. Think of a beautiful woman, an utterly exquisite example of the female form. Now put her in a frilly orange dress. It cheapens her, like she's hiding behind it or showing off the money she can spend on fancy clothes. Now put her in an absolutely plain, gossamer thin black dress that hangs elegantly off her figure with no detailing. She looks a million quid. It allows her form to speak for itself. It works with men too. Stick Brad Pitt in an orange suit, then stick him in a black tux. Again, cheapening as opposed to highlighting.

Some people can pull off colorful clothes, but they will inevitably look better in muted ones. Even if the cut is identical. Even black people, although you usually have to lighten the monochrome to work with their skin. They will usually look better in white and grey, rather than black and grey.

rick owens uses black primarily as a nod to teenage angst and gay, goth and industrial subculture of the 90s

culture wants everyone to look the same cause of like societal norms or something
also Scandinavia really pushes the law of jante
black is a western colour of mourning india uses white
not sure what china or africa use

and it's pretty easy to see parallels between the 90s industrial and gothic subculture in California that Rick was a part of and his aesthetic
