Hey /fa/

How do you avoid import duty/tax? I'm looking at getting some shoes from Italy to New Zealand direct from Buttero.

I'll be taxed on anything over $400, you cant really get a good pair of shoes for under that, couriered in the country and i'm too much of a wanker to buy all of my wardrobe locally.

I've usually purchased anything vaguely expensive when i travel but I'm not heading to Europe this year at all. Got stung for $400 on a leather jacket that i purchased, could have spent that on better things.

How can you get around tax? Share for the good of the fa community

Avoiding government import duties is illegal, and considered a criminal offense in most countries.

>> No.9759617

I read somewhere that if you declare it as a gift you can avoid import duties but that might be a crock of shit. Look into it, though. I got smoked in NZ too, it's not nice and it sounds like JK is going to make it even more expensive for us in the near future.

I would never do anything illegal. Ever.

But theoretically, if there were a way around it, we should discuss it so we can close the loop hope and alert the local authorities immediately.

Yeah it only works up to a certain value still. It is shit because you can buy things in the country and take them in yourself but not buy them online. We don't produce clothing in a large number, it needs to come from somewhere foreign. Why should we pay for a retailer to clip the ticket on something or not have the products at all because the company cant physically open up stores in every armpit of the earth.

If caught you get customs duty for processing it, biosecurity processing, a tarriff on clothing as well as GST. This on top of paying tax in the foreign country.

20% tax over anything over 150 dollars, just pretend you bought it on sale m8. Clothing prices always fluctuate so they can't really check unless it's smth like a ps4 you can lie. But don't take my word

It's not up to the buyer to declare the cost. Packages often have a receipt detailing the product and its cost on the outside of the box, making it perfectly clear.

The exporter must declare a price. They will declare it accurately because they have insurance commitments and have free return collection etc.

They wont lie when exporting goods to their own government

You'd better pray your $1000 shoes you have insured for $35 don't get lost in the mail then.

If you can't afford shipping and tax, why are you even spending money on expensive clothes online?

Fraud is illegal and unethical.

if you order from online websites they'll never declare the package as lower value, that's the only way you can dodge tax and duties

BUT
if you order on ebay almost any seller will declare it as a gift and lower value

btw if they send it via usps or fedex it will almost 100% be taxed

and you also can't insure them for what they're worth

if anything fucks up during international shipping, you've lost way more than you would have spent just following government law

Idk, that's not how it works where i live, but anyways i don't buy expensive things. The actual company doing deliveries from usa says on their website that it's ok to lie about on clothing. They also do repackaging for less space and mass, and it costs 8 dollars per kilo.

you could file a report then if the seller declared it as lower value, it's also illegal for him to do so and you have proof that you paid more. it's actually his fault not yours, so yeah..

i live in a country with extremley strict customs. everytime you get a package from outside the EU it can get taxed and you can get hit with import duties, if the value is higher than 150eur, what i ussually do is i just ask the buyer to state a lower value, the customs never trust those values so they always ask me to provide some proof of payment and to confirm the contents of the package,. i simply send them photoshopped screenshots, works every time. also marking the package as a gift never fucking works, it just makes it more suspicious.

Tell your mother to move to america. Ship things to your mother's place. Have her ship you a package of the things you shipped about once every three months. Tell her to remove the tags and/or mark the gift as a gift. Buy her nice gifts every now and then too

There is not. Shoes are fucking terrible here. So is the leather bag situation. Its too small to shop for everything locally. We import most clothing so i dont see a reason why you cant import it piece by piece

damn. I've done this on private sales on eBay but if it is a clothing store on eBay then they don't usually do it, nor do the websites themselves.

I was wondering if there was a company or something that does this. I'd pay them to process it.

I pay more than my fair share of tax here in NZ
