come on now samefag, if you can't tell eames furniture is a meme, not much I can do to help you.

Donald Judd did some dope 80's minimalist stuff...

Ettore Sottsass did exactly the opposite with his Memphis flair
Gaetano Pesce kinda followed his path of debatable aestheticism, though more process oriented
Benjamin Hubert and Max Lamb's stuff in cool.

If you insist on minimalist scandi stuff, Fritz Hansen is the ticket.

Dutch are still tacky as ever (see Marcel Wanders and Maarten Baas, Mooi, Droog, etc.)
I'd avoid mid-century modern (dames, eero aarnio, arne jacobsen, george nelson) if I didn't know what I was doing.
Try to get your hands on a couple of pieces shaker furniture first ( inexpensive second hand, will last a lifetime, no ifs and buts) if you're just starting out getting piecing together your interior..
then maybe go towards utilitarian yet sculptural pieces, (breuer, prouvé) and contemporary brands, like Hay, established & sons, de la espada

steiner isn't well known, but his influence is massive. On top of being a great furniture craftsman and architect, he was weird and esoterically as well; made the first "organic" concrete buildings , wrote about bees and cosmic energy, founded a commune in Switzerland... an amazing character altogether. He reminds me of gerrit rietveldt or jean prouvé in how he chose to abandon the ideals of beauty of his time and build a new visual language.

Wright did superbe interior design but his track record as an architect wasn't that great if you consider the technical aspect of his work, in the sense that he is notorious for consistently drawing leaky ceilings , or so I've been told. That being said, the building of his that I've visited were all breathtaking. There are even stories of building being repaired for serious structural damage due to design flaws where they discovered that contractors disregarded his orders and reinforced weight baring walls and cantilever planes against Wright's will, avoiding collapse had they not added metal mesh and aggregate.

>>9665195

I have made a couple of them when I worked with him and remember being shocked by the disclaimer stating that this "chair" was actually a sculpture upon which you could sit on at your own risk... We build them as pieces of furniture, but deep down wondered if he didn't truly believe in his product or if it was something his gallerist insisted was to be attached to the "art".

We got the coffee table and several chairs. This setup was placed in a small corner of our house. We would only use these Baas pieces irregularly, every once in a while. The chairs are sturdy enough, but sitting in them is a practice of faith. We always treat the furniture gingerly.

The Baas pieces, individually, are quite ugly. When they are placed together, in a set, it actually looks charming. When you have a Baas table with the appropriate Baas chairs in a room full of modern art with a similar style . . . it just works. I wish I had a photo.

Stranger is that I have a friend with a perfect Rood-Blauwe replica from Rietveld, I can sit in it just fine, but 99% of the people hate it.

also strongly recommend a triple armoire with mirrors, once you're done dressing yourself you can just open the side doors to create a tri-fold mirror.
