Could you get away with wearing the two on the right casually/every day or would it draw too much attention?

What about t-shirts?

I showed this pic to a friend who knew nothing about watches and he didn't think it was that expensive/flashy at all

Seems like it would draw less attention from the average person than a big bulky submariner

>> No.9646365

Yes, definitely. They may not match the way you dress but that's another thing entirely.

>> No.9646379

Is there really any watch that to the average joe looks like it costs several months worth of salaries, though? I'm pretty much an average Joe myself when it comes to watches and a submariner wouldn't look expensive to me until I saw the Rolex logo, until then it could be any brand.

>> No.9646384

>>9646363
True. Not everyone will recognize it, people aren't exactly gonna be gathering around in crowds then whats the worry? If I saw you wearing it in the street I'd be staring out of jealousy, cuz I'm a poorfag, so it would definitely catch my attention. Depends how you dress too though.

>> No.9646400

>>9646379

I agree, I think people won't notice unless it is a big shiny gold watch, I think that would go under the radar for most people and they wouldn't give it a second look, just want others opinions.

>>9646384
The worry is maybe getting mugged or maybe looking like a snob/flashy
I'm trying to figure out is my chances of getting mugged substantially higher wearing that then lets say a two tone rolex or something. Are you a bit of a watch aficionado?
I think most people that may look at the watch would think it wasn't that expensive(especially muggers who are probably more on the lookout for big rolexes/gold watches), just has a little bit of gold on it and a regular leather strap, seems pretty understated

>> No.9646445

>>9646400
I'm in no way an aficionado, I've just spent a lot of time looking at expensive watches while whispering 'one day....' to myself. And yeah I don't think being mugged is going to be a massive problem wearing it, that depends on where you live/where you'll be wearing it in general. I've never suffered from attention on any watch I've worn cuz I've never worn one worth over £300....I can imagine the worry will increase a canny bit when it comes to £30,000 ha

>> No.9646512

>>9646445
It really depends on the watch. The last one I had was a £50 invicta that got a lot of attention from people - it was a really nice divers watch with a two tone bracelet.

My current watch was just shy of a grand and nobody has said shit about it.

If you're ok with that then it's still a nice looking watch as long as you look at it head on so you don't notice how thick it is. I personally like white better especially since it's a dressier watch. I prefer dark dials for more casual watches.

I've come to the conclusion that the two best bracelet types are plain no-bullshit oyster bracelets or the type in the photo. Debate me.

Also I'm not really sure what to call this type of bracelet, I thin I've only seen it on snowfrakes and a few other Grand Seikos and on some Speedmasters.

The indexes on those dials are masonic interpretations of the numbers 1 to 12. This means, no matter the brand that made the watch, the same figures will be where the numbers were suposed to be. You just need to search for the word "masonic" in pages that sells watches like ebay and chrono24.

In fact, chrono24.com has at least four (waay cheaper) masonic wristwatches for sale right now.

SARB033 or 035? I'm leaning more towards white because I like the white one better by itself, but I feel like black might look better actually sitting on my wrist as part of an outfit, if that makes sense. I know some people here have SARBs, how does the dial look in person? I like that it's a simple subdued style, but I don't want it to be completely flat and featureless up close. I've been jerking off to all the beautifully textured grand seiko dials lately and everything else pales in comparison.

And why can't Seiko put those beautiful huge grand seiko dauphine hands on anything cheaper? What I really wish I could buy is an SBGX059 or SBGH001 or a snowfrake.

Ditch the strap ASAP. It blows goats, srsly. Gonna wear out at one of the edges despite being stiff as fuck, how do they even do it?

I also HATE the lume, re-lume if you can. And the crown sucks, too. How comes Chineese $47 watch can have nice finely machined crown with a fucking logo and fucking special edition twice that price can't?

That said, I didn't say the watch as a whole sucks, right? I like amphibians, it's an interesting design, definitely worth having one of these in a collection just because of this, and not too bad a casual watch either. But if only they got the fucking details right! It takes them fucking special edition to ditch eagles and tanks and bears on the dial, I hope someone comes up with super special edition sometime.

I used to have very similar 420, this one is 120 I believe.

Recently got pic related, the bracelet is surprisingly good. The crown still sucks.

So you're never around water and you never do any activities where a tougher watch might be better? They're a nice watch to have and there are so many to choose from and so many variations.

You really don't like a single watch anywhere from dressy aqua terras to submariners to the Seiko-style cushion cases or tuna cans or Sinn German style divers or all the other styles? Who doesn't think lume is cool as hell? You don't like a watch that can go anywhere from a bracelet to a nato or a rubber strap?

I'm still going to school, but I've learnt a huge amount so far. We get a very large tool kit which ends up costing us $5,000 but its just about every tool we could ever need. You can get started for a whole lot less, it all depends on how deep in to it you want to get. As for the possibility of you breaking things instead of fixing them, that'll probably happen a few times. I've broken my fair share of pieces while trying to fix a watch, luckily I have the resources to fix what I break.

Well, the watches to play with shouldn't be too expensive, there are plenty on ebay. It's tools what bothers me, $5K is quite a lot. I have a quartz watch in a nice case, thinking of making a frankenstein of it fitting a Chineese movement in. To have smooth moving second hand.

>> No.9656940

the toolkit we get is really only needed for a really wide range of really involved repairs, and even then its a little bit of overkill. If you wanted to do something like swap a movement, you don't need more than some screwdrivers, hand pullers and a case opener, if you even need that. The hard part would be finding a compatible movement.

Strap is fine. Has a vintage vibe to go with the dial. They don't wear out that quickly. Some quick fire can melt any fraying.

If you don't know, the dots and numbers are all lumed on that model and it works well.

It could just be a limitation to their equipment, and it's not as critical to import. Purchase an entirely different model like the 1967, Amfibia, or K-34 if you want a design from scratch.

Most modern Komandirskies have shitty designs save a few. I'd argue the opposite for Amphibians.

> If you don't know, the dots and numbers are all lumed on that model and it works well

It works so well that without a description you sometimes can't tell the lume is there. Of two SEs I've been wearing none had good lume, I probably just should keep trying. Just before this mini cold war I asked them if they'll be making another batch of pic related and they were going to, not sure about it now but I hope they will.

I'd like to see really good Russian watches, without 'buts' and 'ifs', and the factory in Chistopol is one of two factories which still actually make watches, full cycle, and when I look at SEs and mods people make I see they have great opportunities, and it would be great to see them getting better over time.

Not a bad choice, have a look at the guide posted earlier in this thread. Your budget isn't much, this is a good thing for a first watch, because chances are your taste will change and you might not like it in time, this is also why you should opt for a generic looking watch for you first watch, Junkers are a good brand and that design is timeless, I would cop
