Fragrance general.

Views on Polo Black? Been thinking about copping.

>> No.9434901

What are the main differences between Black and Double Black? I've only gotten to smell Black.

>> No.9435237

I don't see any resemblencea at all to be honest. But double black has a mango/coffee smell to it with a hint of black pepper and polo black has a very weird smell to me. I can't really describe it but it doesn't really smell like what the notes say it smells like. If you want to check it out for yourself you can always go to basenotes.net, sephora, etc.

Alot. Also they apply it more frequently during the day. I always get a bit sad when a projection bomb walks in because people won't smell my fragrance anymore.

>>9439125

You could do 2 on your neck instead. Personally with Armani Code I think you could easily do 2 on your neck and another 2 on your collarbones and even refresh it during the day if you're into that. Maybe buy one of those portable spritzer things you can fill.

Mostly it's just trial and error.

I think some women really layer on their cheap EDTs from Victoria's Secret or whatever so it's saturated into their clothes. I've watched girls spray themselves from head to toe with perfume, as a reapplication, in the bathroom of a club. I'm not sure if this behaviour is considered classy or sexy or what.

The sweetest Kilian fragrance I have (Love) is really noticeable after a few hours, even just with one spritz. The sillage and projection are quite good but one girl complained about it in a class a few weeks ago - eight hours after I had put it on.

it has a berry smell to it. it's nice, but it has realllly strong silliage. too much is overwhelming., and even gives me a headache. i recommend to spray it lightly. it's a playful scent in a flirty way.

today i'm wearing bottega veneta. not sure how i feel about it. it's soft, and every once in a while i'll smell something specific which i like.. it's a kind of strange scent, and i'm not sure what it is. i think i like it

Hey, so I don't really know anything about fragrances, but I started using MMM's Jazz Club, and I'm really digging it. It's been really hot and sticky out lately tho, and it doesn't feel appropriate to have it on, and I was looking for other stuff people might recommend? Do any other anons like this, and if so when do you use it? Again, am not familiar with this stuff at all, I was given a really huge sample that I poured into an atomizer. I have that and another one from MMM that smells like bedsheets that is pretty nice, but it's also pretty floral and I don't always like that smell.

I kind of wish Jazz Club was sweeter sometimes, like is there a fragrance with more of a liquorice sent?

>> No.9455902

i love florals. so many different kinds to choose from

malle - portrait of a lady, une fleur de cassie, carnal flower
lutens - iris silver mist, tubereuse criminelle
cdg - carnation
montale - red aoud, black aoud

i adore tuberose and if you do too its hard to go wrong with piguet's fracas. its THE reference tuberose! probably going to smell a little old fashioned to some noses but to me its cuts across time and through the department store with a clear and singular vision.

there are different notions of what it means to be masculine so ill break it down by recent decades:

80s: chest hair, jock-strap, gold chain, over the top. key ingredients/themes are oakmoss and animal skank. one man show, yatagan, kouros, antaeus.

90s: age of citrus and acquatics. such a powerful theme it is still with us, i STILL see ads of men swimming through the ocean or water running over abs and pecs. CK one, cool water, acqua di gio, l'eau d'issey

00s: marine and citrus give way to woods and spices, which compliment the outdoorsy, hipster beard-and-flannel idea of masculinity for this era. also, sweetness? 1 million, fierce, legend, nuit de l'homme, spicebomb

10s: as far as i can tell, sweet and fruity is still the dominant theme. seductive, aventus, ??? anyone else care to weigh in here?

>> No.9456910

Replace "or" with "and" and that's your answer. Really powerful 80s scents, usually of the fougere style: vintage Polo, vintage Drakkar Noir, vintage Antaeus, vintage PR Homme.

All vintage because it would be illegal to sell those formulations and concentrations today. You can still buy newer versions of the powerhouses, but they're different.

Back in the 80s you needed to smell good in a restaurant full of chain smokers. Nowadays it would be like wearing a chemical weapon.

If I had to guess, it was probably revolutionary to mass-market a scent with so much animal stink in it at the time.

The middle notes are still pretty challenging IMO. And the labdanum/patchouli base is really nice. It's a good-cop/bad-cop experience. Lots of niche houses do this nowadays, but probably not so much back then.

Target market was probably Gordon Gecko wannabes trying to throw their negotiating partners off their game.

one of the worst frags i've ever tried, stay away. possibly wear it to the gym if you insist.

if you're between the ages of 12-16 though it might be ok as an alternative to just smelling of deodorant.

if you're concerned about price i'll offer you some alternatives for the same price, (given that fcuk is about £10 for 100ml) and give you a brief summary of them

zirh ikon - spicey and woody - best for winter - strong starter notes - lasts 5-7 hours 125ml aprox £10

zirh corduroy - woody and masculine - skin scent that fades within around 4 hours unless you're really close, re-apply as needed same price as above - good all year round

bluebeards revenge edt - fairly synthetic, similarities to CK shock though not as good - 100ml £10 - won't offend anyone

Adidas victory league - a direct copy of hugo boss bottled only for 1/100th of the price, doesn't last long but smells exactly the same so no need to worry about re-applying - price varies but you can get it for below £5

bvlgari pour homme soir, i have that, still have a bit left in the bottle, i really liked it, used it in summer 2 years ago i guess, i basically forgot about it, it's pretty cheap too, but a nice scent all together

bvlgari aqua is too fresh for me even for summer

aqua and black are both too popular, so maybe not the best choices if you want something which is not too frequently used by others

if you like dior fahrenheit, maybe you should try the body kouros by ysl, these are two scents i can't really compare to anything else and they're true love or hate fragrances

Giorgio Armani Acqua Di Gio

It's pleb tier, but literally everyone loves this scent on me, so good during summer.

>Does anyone have links to an ugly fucker with perfume advice?
That would be just about any other fragrance reviewer on youtube other than Jeremy fragrance.

And yes, I agree and find it hilarious how Jeremy thinks that fragrance is what gets/helps get him attention from women when it's obviously just his charisma, looks, profession, etc.

Some of his other videos are funny for the same reasons. Like the "how to talk to girls" etc videos.

not really. also, this is only a problem if you are feminine

Do some samples not come with an atomizer? If so, what the fuck do you do with it?

>> No.9478628

With samples that just come in a vial, I typically just put it up to my skin, turn it upside down, but keeping a "seal" so it doesn't spill everywhere, then move it around to distribute the scent a bit.

OP here. instead of ordering samples, I went and got one from Sephora.

I love it, but I can't decide if it fits me yet. Also in regards to >>9478150 i'm relatively androgynous aesthetically, but I dress very much so like a masculine man so I don't think it will be a problem.

>i'm relatively androgynous aesthetically

sounds hit or miss, to me. the way i see it, if you're going to be wearing any fragrance the general public would consider "feminine", you better be obviously masculine, if you dont want to send mixed signals.

nobody would ever question my masculinity by the way i look, dress, carry myself, and i wear sweet/fruity fragrances all the time. nobody would question the latter because of the former.

if i looked more androgynous, i would definitely be a bit more careful with my fragrance choices. a feminine fragrance would skew how people perceive me in an undesirable way.

but, nevertheless, black orchid isn't overly feminine - so don't worry

>> No.9479094

not him, but don't you think that masculine fragrances would seem a little silly on someone that otherwise isn't? Like playing pretend.

>> No.9479251

>>9479094
I'm not >>9479033 but you are kind of right. A slight little guy wearing gorilla cologne is weird. But, most men's fragrances don't have that problem these days:

None of these (men's lines) would ever be too masculine:

> anything CDG
> anything Burberry
> anything Mugler
> Boss bottled
> He Wood
> Lacoste (non-12.12.12)
> YSL L'Homme

These would not be so good, and (with the exception of Terre) they're not nearly as ubiquitous:

> Terre D'Hermes
> YSL La Collection (M7, Rive Gauche, Jazz)
> Kouros
> Guerlain Vetiver
> Tom Ford for Men
> Chanel pre-1992 (Antaeus, Egoïste, Pour Homme)

Can I splash on aftershave simply as a daily fragrance? Rochas Man Aftershave and Old Spice Aftershave are cheap; and I generally prefer the smell of shaving cream over fragrances.

Poor choice.

Get L'eau D'Issey Bleu. It solves both your problems, a good night scent, distinct, much better than Issey Nuit in every way.

This method will put oil and skin debris in your fragrance, regardless of if you've just showered or not.

I prefer to take a coffee stirring straw, place it into the fragrance, cap the other end with my finger, and then drip a drop or two onto each area I want to apply the fragrance.

Alternatively, moving your samples to atomizers isn't hard. You can find little kits for it with like 20 glass atomizers for around $15.

sure, it's /kind of/ 'pretend,' but all fragrance is, really...

it's not silly because it's consciously influencing the way you will be perceived. it's like getting a specific type of haircut to balance out specific features.

sure, though, you can get another haircut to /accentuate/ those same specific features - if they play to your advantage.

it all depends on how you want to be perceived, really.

of course, >>9479251 makes a good point.
