Yeah that is the main one I was looking at because I remember reading about how they are good to use for timing devices.

Also looking at some others, I have grown used to having a stopwatch and alarms.

Liking the compass on this one, would be cool for backpacking but not ultimately necessary. Waterresistant to 100m is nice.

Let me think about it.
Some downsides:
1.) With a width of 9mm it is thicker than a Nomos on your wrist but i dont think it´s much of a dealbreaker but worth mentioning.
2.) Even though I like the idea of the glass caseback, it looks like a rather cheap movement that was decorated as an afterthought. But at least they tried.
3.) The rotor is loud. Not only in comparison with european counterparts, but also with cheap seiko movements.
4.) Don´t worry about choosing a color on the stock strap. Its cheap and you will replace it as soon as you get it.
Some pros:
1.) First and most important, It runs fairly accurate, i synced with an atomic watch and it only ran 9 seconds fast a day. No complains.
2.) Good Size. Case is only 38 sth. so i wouldnt worry about that.
3.) It has a very beautiful face and the second hand sweeps lovely and smooth.

The Rodina is around 120$ which makes it a very affordable automatic watch. Within that price range it is one of the most beautiful watches i came across with ok quality. If you are a fan of bauhaus designs go for it i´d say.

Yes, I have seen your Breguet. Nice looking watch, btw.

I didn't expect your price range to be so limited, I was thinking around 5k usd. However, after reading your post I thought about a brand you might not be familiar with and that I have recently handled, called Carl. F. Bucherer, that is currently making some nice watches with a very attractive pricetag. This are two second hand examples (quite cheap) you might find interesting. (One is in UK)

http://www.chrono24.com/en/carlfbucherer/patravi-t-graph--id2659258.htm

http://www.chrono24.com/en/carlfbucherer/patravi-t-graph--id2367746.htm

They aren't everybody's taste but I hope you like them, since they are far more interesting than the Mont Blanc you posted horology-wise.

I don't have a full collection picture right now with me, as most of it is in the bank's safe but I'm the lawyer with the Journe, Lange, Vacheron, Audemars, etc... that regularly post here in /fa/.
However, this a timepost pic I posted on /b/ a week ago. Also,

Budget is not that limited per say, just currently I want to spend something like that for the next purchase and get a watch that is from a horological and prestige perspective worth more than I pay for it. I found a montblanc star date chrono for £1500.

I'm acquainted with CF Bucherer but not a fan of their lower end models. From an aesthetic standpoint the Mont Blanc really hits the spot for me so I'll have to sleep on it.

In the range of up to 5k I'd almost definitely get (and will probably in the future) a JLC Master Control. Maybe a grey market UN Maxi Marine Chrono.

Some nice pieces you have. I'm a fan of the AP Millenary, how much did it run you? Is that a UN San Marco?

Hey man, for a first time watch, I wouldn't recommend Invicta. It's sort of a 'scam' brand, as they give massive discountd on ridiculously high priced watches, making you thing you got a great deal. Also their watches are generally low quality.

Now every watch faggot will tell you to get an automatic watch. What this is is a watch that doesn't use a battery, but rather uses the movement of your wrist to power itself. HOWEVER, I'd say get a quartz. That is a battery operated watch. They're much more reliable, accurate, and harder to break than automatics, and for a first watch would be a great choice. Don't rule out automatics from reputable brands such as Seiko, Tissot, or Hamilton, though.

In my opinion, the watch you posted is a bit too flashy and wouldn't work with much. Get a neutral coloured watch with a black/white/navy/grey dial and a stainless steel case. A bracelet (metal strap) works with mostly everything, but leather (get black/brown only) may not. I'll go ahead and assume you are in the US with a budget up to $200, and seeing as the one you posted is $60, you'll either have to increase your budget or buy a Casio Edifice if you want some quality.

I'd recommend the Seiko Skx007. It's one of the most reliable and trusted watches out there, and with a 200m WR, it's tough as fuck. It is $170 though, although you can probably find it for $150.

http://www.amazon.com/Seiko-SKX007K2-Divers-Automatic-Watch/dp/B000B5OD4I/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1422522146&sr=8-2&keywords=skx007

Yeah you might be right. I love the look of the Maxi Marine on a leather strap. If the Patravi you suggested had an open case-back I would seriously consider it. It's a bit autistic but I find watches with open case-backs infinitely more pleasing than closed ones. Regardless it's a good suggestion and I appreciate it.

The bracelet is pretty nice, it's really comfy compared to the oysters I'm used to and it feels high quality, there's no excess play or anything. I don't think it looks any chunkier than any other metal strap in person.

The most striking thing to me is the bead-blasted finish, I haven't seen anything like it on other watches. It's a neat change, I just hope it doesn't scratch easily.

I had the exact same problem recently - I found its super easy to use both dental floss and a thin blade - getting the floss under the "shoulder" of the springbar and pulling, then using a knife to pry that out. After about an hour of trying with just a knife it took me about three minutes using this method.

>> No.9397631

>>9396934
>When should you wear a white faced watch?

anytime you want

>When should you wear a dark faced watch? Formal events?

any time you want. Formal events encourage both color choices, really. the case itself is much more important. Is it a dress watch (like the Orient Bambino, for example)? so it's fine for formal events. Is it a bulky ass Casio G-Shock? Don't use it. Is it a military-styled Flieger watch? Don't use it. There are occasions for all these watches.

>Which watch face color is most versatile?

it's black, grey or white. I think grey is the most versatile out of all.

in the end it comes all down to personal preference. I like white dials a lot but it's probably true that black dials with white numerals or similar are easier to read at the end of the day.

As for casual wear only, you can always switch to green, blue or even red faces. Doesn't matter. While I find them nice, they are often harder to read.

White faced watches are considered more formal than black faced watches or watches. Basically a dress watch for semi-formal events should have a white face, a slightly smaller, simple casing, and a leather watch band. At a truly formal you don't wear a watch and no pocket watch either.

I wear a Timex Easy Reader with a silver casing, white face, and black leather band every day. I don't see the point in buying something more expensive because I am hard on my watches.

It's even bigger hassle than you think to pull a phone from one's jacket and put it back considering how every brand is on a race to see who can produce the biggest screen.
