what software is recommended for industrial design (product design)? i feel i can easily model/render a bottle in rhino, do post processing in ai/ps..

i might pick up some acrylic next time i can and make a small model of a bottle..

You will need Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator for documentations and presentations

I'm not working with 3D software yet, but anyone who is also uses Rhino. Personally I'd suggest anything from the Autodesk suite.

You will have to show range in your portfolio if you want to pass, but it depends on where you want to study
A friend of mine is really good at sketching cars, but got rejected 4 times because that's the only thing he can do
My portfolio consisted entirely of series of quick sketches, abstract drawings and self portraits in different styles .. stuff more suited for vis communications

You can specialise on perfume bottles when you have your degree

If I'm correct Raf was a product designer before he got into fashion design

move gucci, ysl and givenchy down to "respectable tier" and probably even lower.

CdG not being in near-niche tier is just fucking retarded on so many levels. of any house on that list, they produce the least "safe" scents and at such a high quality that they practically ARE a niche house.

versace's "the dreamer" alone pushes them into respectable tier. same with jpg.

mugler should be higher too, a*men original gets them to respectable, a*men pure malt gets them into god tier.

AFAIK, Hermes and Chanel develop their scents in-house with resident noses, Jean-Claude Ellena and Jacques Polge, respectively. Maybe a few other designers do that (like Guerlain and CdG I've heard), but most outsource to some generic house.

i'll be applying to some arch grad schools... but i think it might also be worthwhile to seek for jobs making simple products (parfums would be perfect) for a year or two before grad school.

I know some of them are a bit pleb but I wear stuff like JPG as a cheap everyday fragrance to work and plus it was a gift.

Current favourite is Hinoki which is great on a cold and frosty day.

Great. I love it. Been through about 3 bottles of the stuff. It's literally all I wore throughout college/first half of uni. I don't wear it as much anymore but it's definitely one of the best Diesel have released. Very grapefruity. Avoid Only The Brave, that's super pleb tier shit.

Both are good. Hinoki is definitely more niche and woodier. At first I thought it smelt like a pine air fresherner but on the dry down it's amazing.

2MAN is a great all rounder and a good introduction to CDG incense based fragrances. I've also got 888 which is a saffron based eau de parfum and is a really nice day to day fragrance. It's a bit feminine and my girlfriend steals it all the time but it can definitely be pulled off by both genders.

Also try Wonderwood and the Incense series (Avignon, Kyoto).

It's a good pick me up, projection and longevity are utter rubbish so don't wear it for the grills. Lovely thing about it is that although the smell dissipates very quickly, if you rub your wrist against your eye, getting it a bit damp, the smell comes wafting back briefly, which is great when tired.
For what it costs you can't really go wrong, would recommend getting an atomiser though

I got lucky with a couple blind buys when I first started getting into fragrance (perry ellis 360 red and lanvin avant garde).
Then I bought a frag that has pretty positive reviews (burberry brit) that I couldn't stand (far, far too feminine for my tastes).
From now on, I sample everything first.

Yes. Pretty much. Back of neck works too. I also try to give it a minute before putting clothes over it.

Cologne and EDT are just different concentrations. Cologne is weaker, sometimes so weak that you splash it on rather than spray it. The next step weaker is after shave.

Ususally its good to apply to the pulse points, ie the wrists, neck and behind the ears, as there is more blood flow there and your body heat interacts with the fragrance. For most fragrances though, its just trail and error for how many sprays as some are just more powerful than others and thus require less sprays. As for eau de toilette, cologne & parfum, that just refers to the concentration of the fragrance with parfum being the most concentrated and cologne being the least

I don't think there is a frag for "all seasons" because the typical scents and chemical make up is different. For example most summer scents are more water based instead of alcohol and certain scents are too overpowering during the summer as well.

There are often summer editions of fragrances, some make a gimmick out of it with a new limited edition every summer. The only summer edition I know that's better than its mainline is Burberry Brit.

"Sport" can work better in summer, but they often just suck. Some say Allure and Dior Homme Sport are OK. I guess but I wouldn't wear them.

Notes tend to be the more refreshing ones: pepper is a good candidate, citrus is typical, fruity can work but it can be too sweet.

Usually I can smell someone who thinks he's rocking a summer scent but it's just fruity, aquatic, musky, basic bro smell. Try to avoid that and you'll have a short list of candidates pretty quick.

So I am just getting into the cologne game recently as I began to realize one scent does in-fact not suit all.

I am currently only using Lacoste essential sport. I am going to assume this is pleb as fuck and I should really diversify? If so, what would you guys recommend for an active 29 year old that wants to have something for the girl (but is not overly attention grabbing) for the winter months? It's tricky. There were a couple of studies IIRC, that said that mantaining the same scent hardwired people into recognizing you, even if they smelled it on strangers. That in turn, makes them subconsciously think more and actually care more about you.

1 Million: 7/10
Great projection, very sweet (sometimes sickeningly so), quite pleasant after a few hours

Encre Noire: 9/10
Really like it so far, bought it after an anon here described it as "a bonfire in a graveyard" and that's actually pretty accurate. Lasts throughout the day too

Pure Malt: Just tried today so I wont give it a rating but it's really addictive, might buy a full bottle. It gives off a bit of a lad-club vibe to it however

Midnight in Paris: Same as above so no rating but I'm not really liking it so far, something very artificial about it

The problem I have with one million is the projection in combination with heated rooms in winter.

The other day I was in class, and someone, god knows who, was wearing 1 Million, because frankly it was everywhere. Now the heat makes it get incredibly powdery which doesn't suit the fragrance at all in my opinion.

With all the 1 Million bias aside the top note is amazing, just apply it sparingly.

I'd recommend copping a sample and see how you like it for a full 2 days or so. It wont grab your attention like some of the more club focused fragrances but it definitely grows on one.

ive found that compliments/comments really vary regionally around the united states, and from there depends on what kind of social situations you are in. ive smelled cologne on one of my co-workers every day since ive started, and it smells pleasant, if generic (its a run of the mill sweet+fresh thing). ive never once commented on it.

either a) you are living in some part of the US where talking to strangers about anything is weird and/or b) your choices in fragrance are bad. another possibility is you wear too much, and people are overpowered by what might be an otherwise pleasing scent.

It's not the concentration of the scent, it's more the amount of fragrance dispensed from the vial as seen in the photo. I live in the southern United States, so it's fairly common to compliment strangers. I generally spray myself once on each side of my neck.

avignon is the gold standard/reference fragrance for incense at this point in time. there are other fragrances out there that are smoky without being incense, but none come to mind atm. go search around on basenotes.

Smells like bergamot and pepper, it's almost Allure Edition Blanche as a shower gel. Maybe a little less citrus.

Finding good hygiene products for layering with a fragrance, without blowing 20x money on the fragrance's line, is tricky. This is my solution.

Not shilling, but I hope people buy so Nivea doesn't discontinue it.

Thoughts on Lanvin Avant Garde after three or so weeks.

Smell is really great. Tobacco and honey.
Longevity is pretty good. Can smell it for hours, sometimes through to the next day if I don't shower.
Silage isn't very good.
