Apparently a major test to determine fakes is to check whether the crystal spins with the bezel; in this case the crystal stays put. I'm not too worried about it being fake, moreso worried that it may have been neglected by the first owner.

It doesn't cost too much more to get an SKX007 instead which is better looking, isn't a Seiko 5, and is actually tested and certified for diving. The 007 is also super popular for modding and has lots of aftermarket parts available if you're into that or want to try that later.

Whichever one you get, I would budget some extra money to get a decent metal band because the ones that Seiko uses on their cheaper watches are usually pretty cheap feeling and they pinch your arm hairs and stuff.

to me, a gold watch only goes with at least business casual or upwards in formality of fits. if you don't have on at least a collared, button-up shirt with slacks, it looks out of place. maaaaybe a plain tshirt if the pants and shoes were on. any jeans or athletic shoes would clash with it, to me.

It have to be mechanical? Some higher end quartz watches will hold time much better, if it means anything to you. There are also solar watches, which hold their battery very well, from a good few months to a year on a full charge.

Look into Seiko and Citizen, they are my main go-to watches, and they have loads of shit for you to look at.
