What's your opinion on pea coats? Every other person I meet on the street seems to wear one.

They're alright, a bit overused. Black Pea coat + Blue jeans is shit though.

>> No.9321443

hard to utilize correctly, a lot of times they only work if your face looks good. i hate them in casual fits tho, they are a business attire item.

Too short for cold weather imo. I prefer bridge coats. If I'm going to wear 32oz wool, I want it to at least cover my upper legs, and any lighter wool has better fashion options anyway. Once you go long, you'll never go back.

A few inches shorter than pic related is perfect.

any of your regular dark pants. jeans. whatever
brown/black leather shoes, white/grey/black sneakers
regular neutral shirts as long as it's not light grey. so like light blue, white, black
make sure all of the colors coordinate as well as fit and you're fine
pic related only inspo for grey outerwear i have

Bought one, wear it from time to time. I regret buying it.

Hate when they're boxy, prefer super fitted. Billy Reid provides a great looking peacoat but dat price.
Had one from Paul Smith for about a week. Not really my thing so I sold it and made a profit.

Agreed, if your not careful, you might end up looking like a black monolith, and also you have to be able to cover your neck to block wind.

Since I'm in a good mood and wondered the same thing, I searched google for you.

I'm even gonna tell you what I found!

>In essence a pea-coat was for ratings and NCO's while a reefer is officer kit, the main difference being the weight of cloth.
>The term pea-coat comes from the cousins, although the US Navy copied the style from the RN. The "pea" derives from the Dutch word "Pij" which describes a style of coarse cloth with a slightly furry side.
>Today you will be hard-pressed to find a proper reefer off the shelf. I did find a tailor which did a bespoke reefer; Gieves and Hawkes in London should you wish to lay out a grand-and-a-half.
>Reefers are lighter weight, doeskin, pilot cloth or barathea. The colour should be a uniform very dark blue. It should have two vents, and be double breasted with six working buttons and two show buttons. The lapels are not the same as on a pea-coat, more like those on a blazer.

Furthermore:
>A bridge coat is a pea coat that extends to the thighs, and is a uniform exclusively for officers and chief petty officers. The reefer is for officers and chief petty officers only, and is identical to the basic design but usually has gold buttons and epaulettes. Only officers wear the epaulettes.

wanted to cop a black overcoat for similar fits to this, probably mostly all black layering tho.

Doable or would it look too sharp to run casual?

also, coat recs for non-skinnies? seems like twinks can make any long coat work but I'm a flatwater rowing and powerlifter and idk what coat variety to avoid looking dad core
