Salon appointment on New Year's Eve. Broken hairs and frizz are staring to get on my nerves. Toying with the idea of cutting it all off and starting over. Any suggestions/thoughts?

So I am a college student, and I have been back on winter break for a little bit now. I go back after new years. I realized I needed a haircut and I opted for this, because this is what I see other people wearing. I've heard it called the "macklemore" or the "undercut". But I didn't realize at the time that, apparently, this cut has connotations of Nazism. This is bad. And making it worse, I plan to take a German class this coming term. I feel like it would be in especially poor taste to show up there with this hairstyle. I really don't want people getting the wrong idea of me, and I need to change this. But how do I salvage it? The sides are so short and so high that the only option I really have left is to buzz off the top too. I don't want a buzz cut and I feel like my face will look stupid with hair that short. What do I do to my hair to make it not this?

well if ur already cleanin ur hair properly (once/twice a week, etc) then what i do is right out of shower when my hair is dry enough i roughly slick back hair then put on a hat, after a while ill take it off, put v little product in and fuck it all up, twist it, push it forward, etc then put hat over that so it squishes it all, after another while you fix hair and put hat on with front of hair sticking out a bit. idk if thisll work for you bc i have thick as dick hair, but its nearly identical to op's pic
i also shower only at night and this is probs a 4-5 hour process bc i always forget

Trim it short on the sides, and leave the top about 3 times the length of hair on the side. Then just take some style wax, rake it through your hair when it's damp, then comb it to the side so none of it is covering your face.

Have had style on right for like 4 years.
Sometimes do left when I don't get a haircut for ages.
I've got super straight helmet hair when I don't do anything.

How do you let your hair get so damaged? You just stop caring? Don't ever try anything new? I've had long hair for a couple years now and there have been some good and bad times but as soon as it seems like it's thinning or drying or splitting to much I change up what I'm doing to it.
Also I see that hairline on a lot of guys with long hair, if I had that hairline I'd never grow my hair out, it's all round and just ugh. Hopefully you don't wear it in a ponytail.

My hair becomes really frizzy when it gets long, and it starts getting curly from the sideburns up, which looks ridiculous (If I let it grow to ~4 inches long I look like Hyde from that 70's show). So I tend to get it short on the sides and longer on top, but I'm afraid I end up looking like Beaker sometimes.

Any suggestions as to cut? Or some product that takes frizzy, dry, curly hair and makes it more regular-curly/wavy?

People's self-labeling is almost always a matter of preference and personal identity work. If it makes someone happy to call themselves a "longhair," then it's valid in my opinion.

Well stop. Why are you even on a fashion forum if you don't want to try new things and aren't going to dedicate time to changing and trying new things? Anyway, stop that now. You got a hair appointment, great. Buy some conditioner and good shampoo while you're at it. Look at what you did to your hair before, don't do that again. The hair at the roots is always healthy and new. So you have to dedicate time and care to make sure it stays that way no matter if you shave it all off or you just get it textured and changed a bit.

It's really annoying and it sounds stupid and in my opinion your hair shouldn't be a part of your self-identity. I love my hair but it's the things I do and my self-worth that matter. If I shaved it all off I'd be the same person. I just think it sounds really unnecessary. Do what you want with that though, I guess.
