Is it in bad taste to get a refund if someone in your family got you some terrible clothing for Christmas?

yes

>> No.9234786

Did they include a gift receipt?

>> No.9234792

>>9234786
No, I just got a regular receit

Then it should be okay. Do be grateful for the gift and return it in good nature. If you write thank you cards, thank them for the thought. If you mention that you returned it be polite and avoid saying it was ugly, but rather that it didn't suit your personality or that you already have dozens of sweaters but right now need a pair of shoes or so (if you're not close say that it didn't fit).

?? OP asks for advice, tripsk gave legit advice. wtf is the problem

>>9234774
btw OP, I would recommend just lying and telling them that it just doesn't fit right. It's a win-win: you get to return the clothes (without appearing to be a snobby brat), and they don't get their feelings hurt.

If it's some kind of shitty, useless gift--like something from Sharper Image--then there's no problem in getting a refund.

If it's an article of clothing, you should get an exchange. Simply tell them that the sweater/shirt/jacket is either not to your taste or its not the right size. Receiving a gift that will not be used is maddening, so try to get the best of it.

>>9234814
This is decent advice. Although I wouldnt tell them I'm returning the item. Still say thank you and write a nice card though.

Only thing to keep in mind is, if OP is referring to someone he sees often like mom, dad, bro, sis, etc., then he might have to go through the awkward dialogue

>hey anon, why don't you ever wear that Old Navy fleece that I got you for christmas?
