Alright /fa/, I have $1000 to spend and want to completely redo my wardrobe, except for basic shit like socks/underwear. I want black and blue jeans, T-shirts, Button Downs, a few sweaters, a decent jacket and some versatile shoes. Any suggestions for what brands to get to stay within my budget?

pic somewhat related, the kind of look im going for

nah, he just has to have cheaper clothes
2 Naked & Famous = $300
Kent Wang Sneakers = $100
Chippewa Boots = $150
4 American Apparel Ts = $100
Express Jacket = $150 (after promo. always buy with promo code)
3 pairs Calvin Klein underwear & 6 pairs sock = $100
Leaves $100 left for button downs & sweaters. Be a little creative, or just wait a little until you can buy all those on sale to have just enough for those other things.

Adidas Stan smith - 100$
Nike Huaraches - 130$
CDG Converse - 100$
New Balance (Neutral Colored) - 130$

Bottoms (2-3 of):
Cheap Monday (Black Jeans) - $100
Naked and Famous (Indigo) - $130
APC Petit New Standards (Stonewash/Indigo) - $200
Levi's 510-511 (Indigo/Stonewash) - 60$

Basic white shirts (2-3) - Hanes or something cheap - 20$
3 AA Shirts (Black, gray, navy, olive, burgandy, something neutral) - 50$

I'm in a similar situation to OP, just building a basic wardrobe, however I've already got a few pieces and I'm wondering what I can add.

So far I've got

Shoes:

White Vans lows
Dark Navy New Balances

Tops:
Uniqlo Tees (White, Grey, Black, Navy, Burgundy)
2 Coloured Flannels (Brown, Grey)
White Oxford
Blue Oxford

Bottoms:
Black Skinny Jeans
Bleached Blue Skinny Jeans

Outerwear:
Black Parka

I was thinking of getting some sweatshirts and jumpers, and possibly a light jacket. I have a few nike/adidas sweatshirts around, but they are baggy/large and I'm not sure if they will go well into fits.
I was thinking of copping uniqlo sweatshirts in grey/wine colours and perhaps a navy cableknit and a charcoal aran knit jumper. My vans are a bit beat up so was thinking of replacing them with GATs but I think I am going to get laughed at for wearing GATs so I might just buy some converse or something idk.

i like the style of pic related

any thoughts?

Oxford Cloth Button Down shirt, otherwise known as an OCBD if you're a reddit fag. Its a casual shirt made of a thicker more rugged material than you're average professional shirt, it's shorter in length so it can be worn tucked or untucked. It has buttons on the collar which appear useless but were originally intended for polo players wearing the shirt so the collar did not flap in their face while riding.

I keep hearing thrift thrift thrift on here. I'm not sure if it's different in the US but if I walk into a charity shop anywhere in my town (not a bad area) all I find is granny clothes, horrible fitting supermarket brand dress shirts, i've never seen anything I would consider wearing not as a joke. I've never seen anything like vintage flannels or w/e, the only 'vintage' flannels i see are the ones in UO..

>> No.9206562

One question: Do you guys go 1 size up in sweaters or oversize them, I am never sure.

I wear a M in t shirts, and my oxford shirts and other fitted clothing are a M.

But my casual shirts such as flannels, denims, corduroy shirts and my knitwear are almost always large. They just seem to look better a size up, and they nicely drape off the shoulders. Fitted flannels etc. just seems to MFA to me...like a workwear fit that's been given far too much thought towards fitting correctly..

am I wierd i thinking this or does anyone else do similar?

only problem I find is layering is sometimes awkward as baggy knitwear the collar will be too big/perhaps look awkward with say a fitted shirt underneath.... so now maybe I have to buy some fitted sweaters and some baggy ones...confusing

You are shopping wrong, I'm from the UK and I find flannels and good shit eveytime I decide to make a trip to town, if your area is dry go to another area that has more shops or is more posh. In my town we have 9 charity shops, generally speaking if it fits, looks good and the material is nice, buy it, labels are for fags. Saying that in one of my charity shops I have found Versace stuff, ysl, timberland, ralph. Also old m&s shirts are really good in quality.

Just go and make a day of charity shopping, it's basically mostly down to how much lady luck is on your side to find stuff, find out when their stock comes in, be there in the morning and don't spend more than 20quid on the day, people sometimes spend way too much on random shit and aren't picky enough.
Also try clothes fairs and carboots sales if you want something rare and one of a kind, If it sounds too much like hard work then stick to your normal shops, thrifting/charity shopping isn't for everyone
