Get on that breuer,

It's a bit of a time consuming hobby but you can outswift dealers quite easily and get some period replicas for absolute peanuts. I myself just got an original knoll for the cost of 30km in gas. That's the good shit.

makes sense.

i rarely see older vitra this side of the ocean, unless it's clearly from DWR in LA. but you can tell it's not original HM just by looking at it even before you flip it over and look for the stamp.

modernica is fairly new to the scene since they strictly do reproductions since HM moved to plastic and veneer only

which is why they're famous

but they're good for repops, i use their bases on occasion even though they don't have the right zinc process

but chrome looks better for new fags

>> No.9187969

>>9187937
What about reproduction bases (other than modernica) ? On the odd chance you find a HM/Vitra fiberglass shell it's almost always paired with a plain black steel frame.

I've seen a fair few on .com around the 100/200 usd mark, but what are they generally like. Better than getting old ones galvanized?

>> No.9188229

>>9187937

At least Modernica Eiffel bases are still skinny, modern HM & Vitra look way too wide.

Modernica is one of the very few replica's I can bear, they at least strive to make something that's adhering way more to the original design then HM & Vitra.

Price is high though, you can get vintage HM for the same bucks.

They're are some brands that produce replica zinc coated bases

But you have to remeber this stuff is 50-60 years old, bases will likely need to be replaces, repaired at the very least.

9/10 I throw a new base on most chairs I find just because those dowels are like 40 50 years old

It does kill the value, but function >museum piece IMO with the modernica bases on the Herman miller

This isn't entirely related, but i think some of you may appreciate this.
I noticed a couple of Raf x Sterling pieces in a furniture store display in Antwerp, and decided to take a look inside. they were selling a lot of fabrics which were used for the latest RS collection.
This may not be as obscure as i think it is, but I was surprised and thought it was worth sharing.
