Kind of is at the moment because techwear came out of Japan as far as I know (as an actual thing, rather than just a bloke in a North Face jacket). It's not that big outside, only slowly growing. Acronym are getting decent publicity at the moment, though, so I hope that boosts the popularity of techwear.

It isn't far off, for temporary functionality of cooling and collecting moisture. You could probably assemble one yourself with a little ingenuity. Wicking layers under an impermeable latex bodysuit, draining into a reservoir along with a catheter and noseplugs. You'll need a powered heatsink to condense the body moisture and keep you cool, because you aren't letting that sweat evaporate away. A portable pump can filter the liquid acceptably. I don't think there is a viable fecal recovery method yet - no solid foods for stillsuit wearers.

Basically they spend no money in R&D and use middle of the road materials and the quality is alright. That makes them overpriced in my book.

Whereas companies like Acronym, Aitor Throup, Nike and Under Armor create unique designs and materials. Putting it plainly, Isaora is derivative and riding the wake of the 'real' techwear companies into a higher price point than they deserve. There is an archived post that explains it better somewhere.

This Endlessammo company seems legit. They usually use good materials and have interesting designs, yet they are reasonably priced and made in San Francisco, I think. I will probably cop in the future and see what it's about.

I bought an Eddie Bauer wind / waterproof jacket for $35 on clearance. It has their version of chinese goretex. I really enjoy it for the value. They always do an extra 10% student discount on top of any other offers. It also zips to fit inside one of the pockets. I would just make sure that is sustains in a long downpour, otherwise it's basically water resistant and not waterproof. I would also get sweaty in it and see how the membrane breathes and that it doesn't trap moisture and make you all sticky. The best materials keep you dry and breathe. Otherwise hopefully there will be zip vents.

If you can get there stuff cheap cheap then go for it but its not well made stuff

I have one of there top end Summit Series (Black/red) gore tex jackets that was tagged at £260/$400.

Its lasted about one year without fault. The zips bust and the waterproof rubber lining on the zip pealed off really fast.

So i cannot recommend there top end stuff but cheap windbreakers, maybe for the right price.
