HAIRDRESSER VS. BARBER?

Hi /fa/, please give me some advice. I cut my hair last time about 4 months ago and I definitely need a cut now. I'm in a new town and I always used to go to hairdressers but I'm now thinking between a hair salon and a barber shop?

I want it shorter but not TOO short. From what I have seen barbers cut really short, do they not? My mates go to a barber but they get like buzzcuts and I definitely do not want that.

Please give me some suggestions... thanks.

Here is my hair 4 months ago and I want it around the same length again

>> No.9133821

barber shop is for men
hair salon is for non-men

they should hopefully know how to cut hair, just explain what you want

Really you think so? So if I go to a hairdresser I'm not a man?

>> No.9133830

Barbers always trust the barbers BUT only if they are young, they can do super tight work and use blades to tidy shit up. Good luck man, and if you like their work always stick to them.

>> No.9133832

I usually go to a hairdresser, but my hair is much longer and I typically style it.

If you want a cut that short, a barbershop should be fine.

Yeah, as short as in the 2nd picture I posted right?

Why do you have to be like that, man?

Myself and at least 1/3 of my other male friends go to salons.

Shit do most men seriously go to barbers?

Yeah probably. Ask your m8s (whose hair isn't garbage) for recommendations. I got referred to a great stylist through a friend of mine and a free cut out of it.

that's not what i meant lol

barber shops specialize in men's haircuts, while salons also cater towards women

obviously the former is more likely to be familiar with men's hair

sorry if i caused any misunderstandings

i know some men who don't

I used to go to salons as I was scared of going to a full barber, but normally girls can't cut male hair and the few males that worked in there were gay and they wanted to style it their way. Plus barbers are much cheaper and just a better atmosphere, my barber recently gave a chick a job there but I don't trust girls cutting my hair anymore too many bad experiences.

>little pricier but at 20 bucks and a good haircut + shampoo and all that shit I don't care
>old hair stylist shot me a request on FB today

Just gonna leave it in my inbox like I usually do.

I see. But please answer my question, if I go to a barber that doesn't mean I can only get it cut very short right. if I tell them to cut it to about the length in that photo, he could do it right?

Yea, lel don't be scared, show them the pic they'll do it.

they do it for a living

you'd expect them to know how to cut both short and long hair lol

I myself prefer the oldest barbershop in town as they possess years of experience and because of that are less likely to fuck up

My guy worked as a barber. He's at a salon now so I guess I go to a salon. It's not a big deal. A salon is not a straight up beauty parlor so if it's a good haircut and you can live with the price then fuck it.

i'm used to paying about $20 at a local barber for some maintenance and a taper but i'm thinking about trying something new with my hair. there's apparently some very good hair salons in my city but i'm left wondering whether a $60 haircut is worth my time

keeping in mind that these are inflated australian prices in ausbux, is a salon cut worth it?

>> No.9136043

>>9135908

Depends how much you care about maintaining the cut IMO.

If you want it to be done the same way in an exacting way, go to the salon

Otherwise do what I do which is get it cut at the salon and then maintenance somewhere cheaper.

Though this approach depends on if your haircut is simple

Any time I've asked from a barber something a bit more special than just a normals men's haircut they fuck it up. I've had nothing but bad experiences from a barber. People who are advocating for a barber; are you guys going to some crazy hipster one where everyone has tats and a mustache or what?

You can go to both. There's really no difference.

Barbers are only good for classic hairstyles, can't really go wrong with them and they're pretty comfy, no bullshit.
Salons are generally better if you don't want to be a basic bitch but try to get a man or a fag to do it, women suck.
Young hipster barbers are the best, usually passionate about what they do and they know their shit.

i do.

i've been to salons before, but they arent any better and it costs more. i get a short haircut so barbers know what to do. a good barber has been cutting hair for the past 50 years. a typical salon girl has been cutting hair for 5 years to pay off her cosmetology school loans

Barber or salon just make sure it's a guy that cuts your hair. Women can do perms and dyes fine but they don't know how to cut for shit. It's too technical. Sexist maybe but just from what I've experienced personally.
