Am I gay for not liking dive watches?

I respect their pedigree and the design and engineering that go into them, but I don't see why people wear them casually. I just don't like the way they look but it seems like if you like watches you like/want dive watches.

tl;dr: Dive watches are ugly, am I dumb?

I can tell you a few ways you can check if it's a really shitty fake, this won't work on the more well made ones.

>adjusting the crown clockwise in time setting position should move the hands clockwise and vice versa

People like what they like. Plenty of people don't care for the typical diver aesthetic.

That said of course, not all dive watches have such a tool appearance. Take the Longines Legend Diver, a super compressor diver, and the Lew & Huey Acionna which is something of a loose hybrid between a diver and pilots watch.

For the size range you're looking for, your best bet is to go for a vintage piece. There aren't many, if any that I know of, dress watches under 10mm thick, under 40mm without seconds, other than a Daniel Wellington which is very much just a fashion brand that sell overpriced hipster watches.

The male model has a 40mm case 6mm thick and the womens model is a 36mm case 6mm thick.

The higher you go in price mind you, the more likely you are to find a dress watch that size.

Which criteria are more flexible?

It took me a couple of years of being completely immersed in my watch obsession before I started to appreciate them from an aesthetic point of view. They're not ugly, just robust. At first you'll like things that are slim and clean but eventually your tastes will change to the thickness and sharp edges of divers and their bezels, otherwise yeah you dumb lmao

date magnification looks off. bracelet is incorrect. Day-Date's don't come in steel, they come in precious metals (platinum, gold etc) but I don't know if that has always been the case - this watch looks wicked old, 80's at least. The bezel doesn't look sharp enough either but that could be a result of your potato quality phone and the age of the watch.

take it to a respected Watch maker - not some monkey at the mall. He'll tell you in 20 seconds or less whether its genuine. My impressions though are that it's fake.

Obviously only had it for a short while but the rubber strap is garbage. Feels horrible on the wrist. Big sticker on attached to the back saying the movement is Malaysian and case assembled in China.

Buyer's remorse has begun...

I can't decide between a Vostok amphibian or a mako orient that cost around twice as much.

the Vostok has the vintage look and neat Russian origin but I heard its not a really quality looking watch although it is durable as fuck.

I don't think the Laco is actually much better in quality. Laco just uses Miyota and ETA movements for the most part and names them as their own.

I think the automatic Steinharts use ETA movements. I can't imagine the Laco build quality being much higher, although their lume does look much brighter. Other than that I think the Steinhart is a better value for money.

I'd never go as far as to call my diver ugly nor do I consider it a Submariner/Seamaster ripoff. Sure, it might not be the most elegant thing out there, but it's way better solution for EDC than a watch meant to be worn with a suit that in my honest opinion simply looks stupid on person below the age of 30 and/or worn with anything but a suit. To be honest, Patek is only for ppl who don't know what to do with their spare cash or hardcore watch enthusiasts. It's not even a status symbol (ever seen president or wealthy politician witch Patek? Outside of Ukraine I mean), it's just an empty statement.
Omegas are amazing for what they are. It's an actual watch, and a great one at that (overpriced as they all are, sure). Their designs you might like or not, but I personally rate them way above anything Rolex ever did. They are also easily the most innovative watchmaker out there.

What amaze me is that in spite of the marketing campaigns, wich are a bit too much (one screw bla, bla, bla) the movement represents a very important advance in two especifica areas that you people blindly negate:
1) The fact that it is completely machine made (no humans involved in assembling) means it can actually try to compete wit the massive amounts of qwartz made by the minute in fully automated factories. If so, the mechanical strikeback is near and soon cheap watches could include a mechanical movement.
2)Because of the choose onf plastical material in the two componentes that sustain more wear this watch will endure longer without a theoretical service, thus providing a longer lifespan before turning into crap thrown into a drawer like most cheap qwartz end up today.

you might have trouble finding something with a date magnifier and a fluted bezel that isn't a Rolex - both are fairly rare features.

But in that price range I would maybe look at some higher end Seiko SARB's like pic. or perhaps a hamilton, tissot, graf zeppelin and maybe steinhart.

They're good movements. I've got one in an Invicta. 9937OB so it was pretty good. It's fucked now though after a service department from a mall watch place ruined it.

Before you ask why I took it to such a godawful place, I needed to remove a rusted spring bar. The idiot dislodged a marker on the dial and in the process of fixing it 'accidentally dislodged' something in the movement, requiring it to be sent in for a 'free of charge' service.
