As for styling, wax will be good if you're looking for a matte look which is much nicer than a shiny look. Depends on the weight of the hair, get thinning scissors if your hair wont hold and every 4-5 weeks run over the midlength-ends with them, unless you get your hair cut that regularly then just ask your stylist/barber to do that for you.
With the wax scrunch it into the roots mostly, with and just use excess to style however you like.
