How hard would it be for someone with straight hair to accomplish this look / what would be required in terms of upkeep or perm?

Also, i have very thick straight hair.

i like the whole messy look but it's really difficult to do the long, messy thing with straight hair. Currently i'm doing the james dean sorta thing but i miss the length from other styles

Have similar hair, in real life its not like that, you cant keep your hair like this in your everyday life, this hair weight a lot, you will have to use tons of shit to keep volume and avoid freezines.

That hair was maid only to take a picture.

I acheve similar hair when im waking up and look into the mirror, or after i wear a hat or beanie.

Also your head will look much bigger.
