I can't really say I know the exact definition of music, but seeing that John Cage's 4'33 is a song, the closest to a complete definition for music is probably "Music is an art form whose medium is sound" (as said on wikipedia).

Also, while I do realise that you probably haven't really given any kind of drone music much thought outside of "I hate it it is not music its sounds for retards" or whatever, if you listen to it carefully, you'll notice that songs in the genre do include pitch, rhythm, a lot of playing around with dynamics, some less playing around with timbre, but enough texture fuckery that the standard types don't even apply any more.


I should probably stop spouting shit now. Look, the thing is that a lot of people way smarter than you or I have been hacking away at the problem of what music is or isn't for a really long time, it's been a heated debate for whole centuries. We certainly aren't going to arrive at a conclusion by flaming one another on the 4chan fashion board. Just give it a rest. Let people who listen to noise or drone or whatever listen to that, and we'll leave you to your k-pop or belarussian traditional music or whatever the fuck you choose to listen to.

i was on the fence about buying this one but it grew on me like... its gruesome but not in a "oh we're a metalcore band and we're signed to epitaph records so lets pull out some shirts that have guts or a bird on it idk" way. black on white band tees (and vice versa) with no over the top designs are always gonna be the best.

just a recommendation if youre going to buy shirts from a band make sure to research what its printed on before buying because you can get fucked. this one is printed on fruit of the loom HD and i had to size up from a medium to a large because the mediums are a little tight. gildan is always going to be the cheapest, go-to alternative for bands to print shit on since its cost effective and it runs true to size. most of the brands (especially the two mentioned before) will shrink really badly so make sure to air dry your shirts when you wash them (unspoken rule for pretty much any article of clothing you care about). if you get a shirt printed on like... jerzees or Alstyle that's really a plus from the band/label producing the shirts. never get American apparel shirts they aren't good.

What would you say are the skills that a musician needs to master before he can be good? Are you talking about like music theory? I wouldn't agree here, because counterpoint and harmony as a study are kind of obsolete for modern music, and atonality and twelve tone technique are, as far as the popular culture is concerned, playgrounds for the contemporary art music. Surely you can't be saying that a country guitar player is a better musician than a drone musician, just because he is really good at chickenplucking instead of building massive walls of sound on which drone is based. Sure you could call people like Klein, Rothko, or Still hacks but they obviously gained great fame for their fairly "unskilled" works. To say you can only make something that is experimental if you already know what your doing just seems counterintuitive. Art especially in the in the frame of experimental and Avant Garde art usually comes from people who have this raw emotion and passion, and express it in a way they feel appropriate. I understand the argument I love looking at a Monet but I can really see an artists thoughts and and their emotions when it is more abstract and raw. I know this sounds really fucking pretentious but it's how I view art, which at the end of the day is one of the most subjective mediums of expression out there.

They are hacks and need to go study. There are plenty of hacks. Avant garde art as in abstracts are trash. Surealism, art nouveau, expressionism, cubism, all good. They all clearly knew what they were doing and got bored. But there are a ton of hacks that are in museums because asshats called it art. Merzbow is exactly the same to me as the guy who shits on canvas and drone is like those girls who paint stick figures with period blood.

You can argue that they are expressing emotion. But I argue that the difference is between a novel where the diction amd structure is at a 1st grade level vs someone who is actually skilled at wordplay like a Votaire. Sure the 1st grader sounds emotional when he tells me he hates salad, but that is objectively worse than Voltaire arguing for religious freedom in the clever ways he does.

I would rather look at Corperate concept art than most abstract art where they're trying to be 3deep5me instead of actually doing their studies and impressing me with equal parts emotion and skill.
