Hah. More of a joke, I don't make a huge amount and can indulge because my living costs are low at the moment. My list would be much bigger if I included watches above the 1K mark obviously. Nomos, Sinn, Omega, the list goes on for some of the pieces I want but just can't afford.

I'll get there eventually though I'm sure.

Also keeping a watchful eye out for this beast. Much want.

Don't. Buy whatever you like and can afford but don't buy a fake. You'll just throw money into the trashcan, won't feel anymore confident (which is why some people go for the recognizible brands, but not necessarily you) and won't get back any of that purchase in any sense. Plus, the people who truly know you will know it isn't original and mya think less of you because of that (if you care about that, but mae not.)

At least go for a hommage like those made by Orient

It's a lightweight, fun watch to wear. It's really thin and the crown doesn't protrude horribly so it's a rather comfortable watch to wear. Mine is exclusively a nato strap watch.

>>9031300
Better than I expected. The pushers feel good, the fit and finish of the case is superb, and the dial is detailed. That being said, the crown is way too small in my opinion, and the dial itself is rather flat. I think adding some form of depth or layering to the dial would really bring it to life, like a separate chapter ring or sunk subdials. Past that, it's a rather nice wear.

I don't know the specifics of course, but I highly doubt he's adding shiny chromed out indices. Probably something off green akin to the current dial, and it's being done just to give more dimension to it really.

Done right, applied indices look sex as fuck. Example: Prototipo

Up until recently when I started to visit /fa/ more often I realized that Fossil watches are total shit and I'm embarrassed to wear one. I am 19 years old and a bit poor though seeking for a nice new watch.

I am looking for a watch for around $350. Preferably something that goes well with just about any outfit.
I was told Seiko makes good quality watches.

Can you guys recommend me some watches within said price range? Could spend more if necessary but then again I don't have that much money to spare.

I have a normal to slightly below average wrist size and frankly the bulky 44mm watch I currently own looks off compared to my wrist, but maybe that's because the watch is really thick too with chunky buttons.

Thanks a bunch

otherwise with your budget I would check out longislandwatch.com and check out a few other brands.

I thought it was already funded? It looks better every time I see a photo of it. Little details that you miss the first few times. Love the 'chamfer' on those lugs. I do wish the sub dial hands tapered to a thinner point though.

Yeah I was tossing up between the OVM and the Ocean Two. My reasoning behind the purchase was that the OVMs are always up for sale on WUS. I'll try and get one after Christmas. They hold their value quite well but you're still getting a sizable discount off RRP if you buy 2nd hand.

Nein. It's been in the works for a little while. There are 4 colour variants planned as far as I know, and he's just waiting on new prototype dial with applied indices instead of painted. I'm really stoked for it. Another variant >>9031739

>They hold their value quite well but you're still getting a sizable discount off RRP if you buy 2nd hand.

I wish that were the case for me.
Right now someone has one for sale on WUS for 450USD, which equates to about 510CAD. That's before extra shipping to Canada.

Steinhart has the OVM listed for 295EUR, and even with the shipping increasing the price to 325EUR, that's still 465CAD. If I get dinged with tax, that's pushed to about 520CAD.

Pointless for me to go used with an OVM when I can get one brand new for about the same. Heck, even if I only save 30 to 40 bucks, it's still more worth my while to go for one straight from Steinhart.

Anywho, my rant is done. Do post pictures when you get yours.

Yeah that's completely understandable. There was a guy in my city in Australia who was selling one. It was a year old and he wanted about 380USD or 440AUD (with shipping).

I offered $400 f2f sale but someone jumped in before me.

The trouble with buying direct from Steinhart is the paypal currency conversion. Turns a $470 AUD watch into $500+. So I figured if I could get one around $400 that's hopefully less than a year old then I'd buy it.

I don't mind waiting for a deal. I'm also keen for all the Christmas sales. I started a thread on WUS for people to post whatever hectic deals they found.

thanks mate.
i coped that watch itself for 25 bucks. add the 50 for the custom bezel + seiko inlays and you got a total of 75. with all the straps i bought i think i spent close to 100 on the watch.
i love the housing and the movement of the watch, been thinking of getting a glass back for it.
the movement is very robust also aggainst shock no issiues yet.
only problem i had this summer was that some of the dots from the dial started flying arround and occaisionaly one cem into the movement and i had to remove it.
i realy like the dial its from a komandierskjie, thats why it was so cheap to buy. only thing that bums me is the red star maybe ill paint it one day.

but so far in my opinnion the best automatic watch you can get for under 150. you can totally make it look how you want

Yeah, it's the exact reason I chose it over the others. The Jubilee was too dressy, the Oyster was too plain, but the Super Engineer II is perfect. Eye catching and meaty.

It is. It's a double domed sapphire with an inner AR coating from Dagaz. Coupled with the new hand set and bracelet, it's perfect for me.

Easily the biggest change was the bracelet, but the crystal and hands are the cherry on top.

Thanks! My wrists are a little on the larger side at about 7-3/4" around.

You mean an SKX171, the one in your picture, right?

Regardless, definitely with you on going with that one over the 007 for the dial. Had I known of it before I got my 007 some time ago I might have gone with it instead.

As for the bezel itself, Dagaz sold them at one point. They're sold out on the site, but you could email him to see if he'll be getting any back. It'll take the same bezel as the 007/009/011 etc as it's the same watch with a different dial, date wheels and bezel.

Might have good luck on the WUS sales forums or even give Yobokies a shout to see if he has any sitting around too, at that.

first and foremost, the type of movement (the 'guts' of the watch). quartz or automatic. you can look up the differences. automatic gets a lot more love from watch people.
what's going to distinguish a cheap watch going for a marked up price vs a good watch at a reasonable price point is the brand. fashion brands (brands who aren't known primarily for making watches) are cheap Chinese garbage. look at brands like Seiko, citizen, tissot, Hamilton, steinhart, and orient.

I do. That shot >>9043014 is mine I took a couple hours ago.

Looks are subjective but I think it looks great and pulls off the vintage styling that he was aiming for. The case especially helps in this regard, the wire-style lugs on a completely polished, rounded case is certainly nice. The hands fit the design of the dial and the colour of green for the lume dots work on the all black dial.

There are a couple things I don't care for though. First would be that the dial itself is rather flat. It looks good for what it is, but there isn't any depth. Nothing is countersunk, no indices, no chapter ring/rehaut, etc. A little more dimension would be nice.

The second would be that the crown itself is a little small. It looks out of proportion with the rest of the case and isn't the easiest to grab. Fortunately as it's a quartz I don't really have to use it a whole lot.

The final thing is the crystal itself. It's sapphire. Neat. AR coating? Nope. Having handled it in person, I definitely would have preferred the crystal to have some form of AR coating, or just left the sapphire crystal and gone with the originally intended domed crystal. Can't remember what material that was intended to be used, but a domed crystal would have been much more cohesive than the sapphire crystal on it.

Just my thoughts. I'm not getting rid of it any time soon, it's super light, comfortable to wear and really does look great. I'm just nitpicking.

>It's a classic, stylish design created by Maxio with obvious roots in sport chronographs of '60s/'70s

>What is new and maybe a bit controversial decision, is it's movement. We decided to create our first model runned by a battery
Our choice is Seiko VK64 - a nice&tested movement, used by numbers of different brands, with two distinctive features that drived us to it :
>1. central chronograph hand runs more smoothly, with 5 ticks for each second.
>2. reseting the chrono makes this hand to get back to 0 position just like in mechanical chronographs - back. Not forward, like for most popular ones.

>This triggers two important requirements for the hands and assembling - it must be first made, and second assembled according to a norms for mechanical chronographs, not quartz ones. What is a bit more complicated, but nothing to be affraid off At least we are not.

>Technicals : this is another 316L steel cased piece, with 43x49 mm case size. Rotating, uni-directional 120 clicks bezel, sapphire glass with AR coating, WR200 water ressistance, and swiss luminova on dial&hands.

>What is most important part of this project - this Seiko movement makes it avaiable to create less expensive of our watches so far, with no serious compromises as you may notice. With price well below $300, I belive this will be a nice add to our offer.

They previously said ST19 in the link, but probably changed it and forgot to update the photo. Explains the inaccurate subdials.

There are some issues associated with the ST19 and this may have been what motivated the switch.

Hm. Missed that. Makes perfect sense then, I suppose.

Yeah I've read about the ST1901. Docvail of Lew & Huey went on about why he isn't selling the Riccardo anymore and why it was a massive fucking pain in the ass to deal with, and that essentially came down to not listening to his supplier/manufacturer about the ST19 being very much a hit or miss movement, where some are flawless and will live forever while others will shit in your breakfast for looking at it wrong.

So it's good that they're going with the VK64. I've got one in my Sparrowhawk II and it's nice. Looking forward to Nadim's new chronograph soon to be out that'll use the same movement.

Definitely gonna own one of the two variants >>9031739 >>9039344

Nice. I really like most of the VK series but not the VK64 very much because of that 24hr dial.

I'm in on Ed's 1963 reissue project but I'm considering dropping out because I've realized I liked the normal, blue handed one better. Looking forward to December though.

Thanks for your review.
One last question, do you think it's worth the $350 they're asking for?

I'm one of the founding backers and I'm not entirely convinced I'd pay that price for it.

My views might be skewed though as I've received a lot of quality watches for pretty cheap. I got this big date chronograph with a 1/5th second chrono function for $160 (pic related). The Sparrowhawk II can still be found for about the same price as the Skyfighter with a mecaquartz movement, and the new edition that forgoes the mecaquartz movement should be just as cheap if not cheaper. I've got another Seiko vintage inspired chrono on the way which is a unique design in it's own for $220 but to be fair it retailed new for over $300 if I recall and it uses a hardlex or mineral crystal.

BUT, the big thing is that it's certainly a one of a kind piece. The quartz movement in it is of impressive quality (10 jewels, parts are gold plated), and the case is very, very well designed and finished including the wire lugs. The dial, while flat, does fit the design ethos that the line of watches aim to achieve and the overall presentation, build quality and strap included with the watch provides more than what you'd get from a big box watch. And while I'm not a huge fan regarding certain aspects, it does have a sapphire crystal, something often not seen on a lot of watches below the $300 price point, mechanical or quartz.

So I can't say yes, but I can't say no either.

Ayyyy I have this watch.
Unbelievable amount of compliments. Even people who take offense to the rubber strap try to think of something else to put on it then say well actually it looks pretty damn good.
Awesome watch
