i don't like buying shoes online. worried about getting shoes that don't fit

I'm somewhere between size 10 and 11 and it depends on the shoe (I have a little wider feet I think)

I have 10 pairs of Allen Edmonds and a Few Aldens. They are boss and you will not be disappointed.
If Ebay weirds you out then look at
shoebank dot com
That is were they sell their factory seconds for hundreds off. I've seen a thousand pairs and most of the time you can't tell, but sometimes there is a small scuff or or something, since it is retail you can return them and get a different pair, unlike ebay many times.
A pair of nike owned, china made, plastic soled cole haans will run $180 so Allen Edmonds for $300 new, $200 factory second, or $100 on ebay are all better options in my book.

Many successful businessmen know the models of Allen Edmonds. We talk to each other about them, use them as conversation starters. "Nice pair of Park Avenues!" "Thanks, just got them resoled" "Just got my Strand done myself, how long you get on a your heels?"

They get recognized as AE about once a week, and strangers will tell me they like my shoes about 3-4 times a week on average. Mostly my Walnut colored varieties or shell cordovans. Even if they are 6 years old. After a few wears no one is going to compliment your corrected grain plastic JC Penny tier because they will look like shit. Johnston & Murphey and Cole Haan are a little better but the name only impresses people who wear crocs and bear paws everyday and you wasted $180 for them when you could have got AEs.

well some Loakes are you may be right there.

Johnston and Murphey or Cole Haan are the only acceptable alternatives. If everyone in the company knows that you make less than $35K then fine since maybe you don't want to look uppity, but otherwise buy the damn AEs.

What is a good starter shoe of AE? I don't think they are sold in Australia so I will have to buy them online or something, so I want something simple and versatile

>> No.9008494

>>9008467
that's a nice site, they ship to canada too (from what I've read online)

are Strands the best shoe to get, I see them talked about a lot online

>Australia
>can't help you bro, not sure if I would still get AEs if I was in Australia, people might be more geared toward continental brands or most likely UK, the brands other anon mentioned might be more affordable there since British and all. There no Aussie shoe manufacturers? That is half of the pride of ownership right there.

A lot of people here buy UK shoes I think because they're easier to get like Loakes. Loakes are quite popular in Australia but online AE seems to be popular from the sites I have browsed so I wanted to see what the fuss was about

There are Australian brands but they're not in the same league as the UK shoe makes. This suits me though because you can buy a pair and not be too afraid to throw them out once you ruin them. With a $500 pair of shoes it is a different story

I have found from buying leather shoes over the past year that a decent pair will have a softer leather that seems to polish up ok. Cheaper shoes will have this harder leather which almost seems like it's fake leather and it doesn't absorb polish very well. These cheaper ones look ok when new and clean but once they get a bit old they don't seem to be able to clean up very well with polish. You probably can wash them though since they leather seems so hard

>$200 factory second
they're $300 on shoebank.com

not a big savings over full price. but supposedly they have deals every few months

Correct, even have a 2 for $250 sometimes apparently but I have never caught it.

Nordstroms has a sale around this time every year with Park Avenues and Strands for $200 brand new 1st quality.

Plugging myself, barely creased, newly shined so all scuffs are gone. Very good price
