Just talk to people, ask where them come from etc.. At the beginning of the semester I knew nobody, now, 4 weeks later I know half of the class and their friends.

When the semester starts, I don't go to my first class too early, just so some more people can fill in the seats. Then when enough time has passed, I walk in and quickly scan the room to see any friendly looking people. I sit next to them, say hi and make small talk. Rinse and repeat for all your other classes and you will make friends easily.
