Just like the majority of the world you don't realise that the Russian people know pretty fucking well that we're living in a dictatorship. The reason we're fine with is because we NEED this sort of system for our country. We've never had democracy and it's not about to start working anytime soon. And any true Russian will always put the country's interests above his personal affections towards the state. In other words, our patriotism will outlive anyone leading us.

And the reason for Putin's ratings is simple. When a country is in a situation like the one we're in, when the whole world is mobilising against us with sanctions and political alienation, we as a people will stand behind any leader proudly, BECAUSE we are PATRIOTS. We can't NOT support Putin in this, can you even imagine the consequences for Russia if we start undermining the system on a domestic level.

And I'm sorry about Ukraine being the ground here. Rest assured, what we Russians really want is an autonomous, prosperous Ukraine that is happy to do business with Russia. And please don't tell me going into Europe would have led to anything at all, you would've been exploited even worse than all the Baltic states were. Cheap labour, prostitutes, exploitation and de-industrialisation is what Europe was looking for in Ukraine. They don't have the money to bail Greece out, they sure as fuck wouldn't have the money to sponsor Ukraine

Nationalism and chauvinistic distaste for the rest of Europe has got you in the predicament you're in. Putin is the reason people are mobilizing against you. Putin's actions are causing your alienation from the world, not protecting you from it. Also to say you want an autonomous prosperous Ukraine "that is happy to do business with Russia" is heavily-two faced. It's clear that the latter is more important than the former.

You're emphasising too much focus on aspects that are secondary from what I said. I never said Putin is a hero, and I never said he is protecting us from the alienation. I earlier mentioned that he is fucking up the political, social and economic climate between Europe and Russia for the future generation. Furthermore, you're making implicit assumptions about nationalism and distaste for Europe. I think most educated and developed individuals with principles will understand the importance of honouring your roots - patriotism - our love for Russia does not equate to hate towards Europe or love towards Putin. It means that at the end of the day we have to support the interests of our country. Whilst what is happening is something I disagree with, it is, at the end of the day, in the geopolitical interests of Russia and we have to domestic support of Russia in this cause is in the interests of the state.

And, since you were asking, upper-upper class. I grew up in Europe and have lived here most of my life. Don't bother mentioning this, I've already said there's a good reason for why successful and educated Russians are leaving the country. Rather I'd like you to see this as evidence that I am more enlightened, and not as you say chauvinistic or dogmatic for that matter. I see things from a multifaceted perspective and come to conclusions based on weighing all the sides to the issue involved.

I assumed you were very rich. I'm not saying you are ineloquent. You're just making arguments typical of a Russian capitalist or at least individual who has a financial investment in the status quo. Honoring one's roots is by no means inherently important. Its sort of a tribal mindset really. Culture is important to one's self identity. I get that and there's nothing inherently wrong with that, but its often a very negative force. The one thing you're mistaking here though is patriotism for nationalism. The difference is subtle, but basically patriotism is the love for one's country, while nationalism is the love for one's country above all others in almost a far-right sense.

And I would disagree, I think honouring roots is extremely important, just as you say culture is important to one's identity. I don't think it's a negative force, in fact I think it is of paramount importance in defining one's principles, which are so important in the modern world when so many people don't really have them anymore.

im often fantasizing about abstract tattoos, that aren't kitch like tribal is now. If you know about the Modern Primitives movement a lot of their strange and original tattoo work comes from drawings made while on psychoactives, and i imagine when the wearing looks at it they can remember abstractly something spiritual from their trip, maybe transient ideas, doesn't matter.
