Newfag to /fa/ here, reading through it seems like hair advice isn't usually high on the ladder but I just recently started giving a damn about my appearance and don't know where else to look for advice.

I have hair that is thick and naturally dry and hard to tame, so getting it cut short has been my best options. I usually get it cut above my ears or semi-buzzed. With recent university costs, I haven't been able to get it cut for months and I can't afford to get it cut again for a few more weeks., and it's already grown shaggy. In the meantime I want to practice styling it with product and bought some holding glue to practice with.

I just want to know how to style my hair in a way that looks cute and punkish without being obnoxious. Pic semi-related, it's not me but that's virtually exactly how my hair looks at the moment.
