Hi
I want to shift to wearing toned down menswear cause I feel much more confident in it, and people have an easier time appreciating it rather than other fashion which is predominant here (even though I respect and appreciate it), and need your advice on it. I got some categories of items I want to buy: light tops - white shirt, medium layer - grey crewneck sweater, hard layer - overcoat, black/grey wool, bottoms - trousers, earthy color, slim, and shoes - brogues and white sneaks.

Please suggestions on both categories and particular items, and dont refer me to /mfa/

I just want to look neat and menswearish, but no autism fedoras, three piece suits, raw denim and such.

Thanks!

Just go to mfa and be Dadcore with those faggots

>haha people dress differently look at how edgy I am don't call me a dadcore faggot pls /fa/

For basic pieces (shirts, pants) J crew has always been my best friend. Their 484 chino fit is great if hungry skelly, but their urban slim is alright as well.

For suiting, Brooks Brothers.

Other than that, there isn't really some huge factor that will make you dress dadcore. Just don't cop edgy things. Lurk around, cop interesting pieces, like that awesome button down from our legacy with the cool texture.

Most of the pieces on /fa/ aren't "Goofnigger" exclusive save Nike and long tees.

people heere can be real cunts, and mfa sucks as you know
you can try styleforum, which isn't too bad and has a focus on menswear
that being sad, since you aren't going to cop #nxtlvl shit but traditional stuff you don't really have to ask anyone, as (assuming you live in a city) you won't have a hard time finding many pieces to take a look at on your own and try on. so just learn to identify quality clothing
and try this site, you can search for a specific brand and it will find pretty much any stores that stock it in your chosen city
http://www.thelabelfinder.com/
also find a good tailor near you and be prepared to spend some money on your pieces, if you dress traditional, quality and good fit is a must

I have a few pieces that seem like good fa/menswear combos. Barena black blazer, acne jeans, common projects, side zips etc. it can be done.

Jcrew, Club Monaci (really recommended), Uniqlo.

>For suiting, Brooks Brothers.

Nah, BB is dead and for old fat Wall Street men.

The most important thing is to get your clothes to fit well and then do fun stuff with colors and patterns like the pic you posted.

The Dominik for spring is pretty great in the camel-toned wool they used. They actually have a permanent suit on offer in the collection, but only a few stores stock it given that it is pretty basic compared to runway styles.

>>8791986

As for brands, a lot of contemporary brands do a great job of working in the tailored and uspcale-sportswear categories in what I think are close to what you want.

Acne has built a really solid assortment of not-too basic shirting and knitwear that complements the rather distinctive proportion and cut on their Drifter suiting.

I think Assembly does really interesting stuff, too, but I worry it might be a BIT too modern for what you're after.

I agree with the previous suggestion for Club Monaco, but at the mall-tier sort of thing, I'd even suggest the Hugo Boss red label HUGO range given how it is styled so much more aggressively contemporary than everything else they put out.

The Richard suit is great, if you have the lifestyle to accommodate such casual suiting. They're adding a bomber and shorts in the Richard program for spring, so that'll give more options for people who want to do the matched separates thing, but prefer sportier styles.

i was in the same position as you a few hours ago, i tried on a corneliani coat that my mom bought for my dad, and sort of had a moment, i pretty much wear stuff that most people would consider "gothninja" ( god i hate that term), but i imagined myself wearing menswear and i liked the image, the closest thing to traditional menswear i own is an ann demeulemeester blazer, but for a moment i saw myself in vibrant abd colorfull contemporary menswear fit and i must say i liked the image, anyway none of this is really relevant to your question so i will just type my opinion on how you should go about this. firstly i would get good basics, which you have already listed yourself, and after that it is so easy to add interesting elements, there is a lot of designers doing things that can easily be incorporated to make you stand out form the crowd while simoultaneusly blending in, i would look into neil barrett or kris van assche, the team at MMM have also been putting out a lot of great pieces that with just minor tweaks that make them stand out just enough. So basically what im trying to say in this post is that there is a lot of room for self expresion and experimentation in menswear and a lot of posters on this board (and a handfull of other boards) fail to realize that. i hope that your fits turn out amazing OP

nope

i've tried that, just get self-conscious knowing that the shoulder fit is shit, and it's no fun wearing the thing

whole point of tailored wear is that the fit is amazing, so don't compromise on shoulder fit.
