any1 else ever wish they were religious? necklaces are gay as fuck on men 99% of the time but if they are for religious reasons they can be pretty /fa/ imo.

I am catholic and faithful but I keep the crucifix under my shirt.
Wearing it flashy or getting tattoos (which is forbidden by the bible) is incredibly tacky.
My faith is noone's business and I don't need everyone to know I believe in god.

I've always thought about this in very symbolic terms. Like, to me, a necklace that I can remove or hide at my leisure suggests that my faith is similar (and for a heck of alot of christians, that is precisely the case). A tattoo, however, particularly in a conspicuous location, would suggest the opposite. I have neither, though, and currently hold the belief that my actions should speak louder than any tacky/flashy piece.

I wouldn't judge people too quickly; I'm sure I seem hypocritical in my beliefs, too. But I think wearing something like that can also be a way of reminding yourself throughout the day (if you're forgetful, like I am...), plus the whole "shout it from the rooftops" idea.

Not even most jews consider the tattoo to be a sinful act. Only a Leviticus (19:28) passage prohibiting old testament priests from getting anything tattooed into them. But the point isn't the pointless prohibition of actions.

Almost the entire Leviticus deals with a counter culture towards the heathen nations actions, modern catholic teachings don't really base much on these four books.

Not that it matters, tattoos are complete shit 99% of the time.
