>Go into a Hermes store and ask for a Birkin.
>'I'm sorry sir there's a waiting list, you'll have to put your name down and wait until something comes up. It could take up to a year'.
>Ask for a Constance belt
>'I'm sorry sir there's a waiting list for that as well'

That happened to my friend last time he went into a Hermes shop, my question is how do I avoid it happening to me? I know the waiting list is bs but I also know that if I rocked up asking for a Constance belt they'd just turn me away. Any tips /fa/?

Don't look like a foreign fuck. Don't look like a rapper. Don't look like someone who enjoys rap. Don't look like a bum. Don't look like a nigger. It's easy. If they don't give it to you, there's a good reason for it.

They usually do that shit. You justhave to buy some other things and eventually ask for a birkin or belt. They get a lot of people just buying the birkin and they want to sell most other things too (obviously)

Hermes is just another stuffy as fuck French fashion house (see also: Louis Vuitton, YSL, Cartier, etc)

Their stuff is nice but it's nothing I would stuffer to be put on a waiting list for. And their price inflation is just ludicrous given their production numbers.

I've met some great sales associates at Hermes, but mostly they are pretentious French hags who can't be arsed to give you the time of day.

Which is why I usually walk across the street to Bottega and let them eat shit.

Tom Ford pulled that entire company back from the brink of bankruptcy and Yves still had the audacity to write him nasty letters

where do I begin to learn about fashion history? Any books / docs you can recommend?

>> No.8744995

This book has a decent who's who in the fashion world:

http://www.amazon.com/Luxe-Fashion-Tribute-Worlds-Enduring/dp/0762451114/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=undefined&sr=1-1&keywords=luxe+fashion

There are a million books on the subject. Bookstores tend to group them in with the art-related books.

Tom Ford's documentary was pretty good (he had involvement at Gucci and YSL):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMd-ZAL-2qY

Type any designer's name into Youtube with the word documentary and you'll find something. These people were public figures and they have all run their mouths quite a lot.

Nowadays most established houses have put out their own high quality book(s) about brand history, collections, etc. Again you can find them in the artbook section of most stores. This is also true for jewelery houses (fashion and jewelery have always gone hand it hand)

thanks pal I appreciate it!

One caveat though: you'll never really get to know a brand, how it operates, the things it makes and so on except by getting hands on with it. Spend time in their stores; talk to the people that work there; ask them questions; buy a few things; and always take the time to inspect what's on display there, from the furnishings to the architecture to the artwork to the collections themselves.

And do your own research. Look into the counterfeiting epidemic. Read up on prole drift. Watch marketing campaigns and look over advertisement material. All of this is helpful, whether you want to learn about fashion in general or just a particular brand.
