How big of a sin is it to wear a long overcoat with shorts?

To me it looks like wearing a tie with t-shirt. Conflicting visual cues make it uncomfortable and easy to make fun of (that doesnt bother me, but for some it might).

It's just silly to do because you're betraying the function of both garments. Fashion isn't necessarily about functionality, but the aesthetic quality of an outfit can be diminished whenever people are looking at your clothes and thinking, "wow, that fucker is dumb."

For example, even if you look great in linen shirts, seersucker shorts, and flip flops, wearing that shit when it's snowing outside will look stupid as hell.

That being said, when it's raining (or just particularly cloudy, so no one will blame you for thinking it'll rain), feel free to wear a rain coat like pictured. However, keep in mind that such a coat is lighter. The coat can be as long or as short as you please, as long as it doesn't create some weird silhouette.

An overcoat with shorts? That just sounds really weird. Long overcoats make your legs look shorter. Shorts that end at the knee make your legs look even shorter, paired with a long overcoat. And you get fits like this >>8624113

If you want to wear a coat with shorts, just make sure it's lightweight. Kind of goes along with that >>8624127, and >>8624182 are saying

It's about the aesthetic quality of your outfit, which is the point of fashion no matter what your motivation is. I don't dress to impress others, most of the time I dress in ways to make sure that people don't notice me at all. However, the main goal is still to have the best aesthetic quality from an outfit. In my case, the main goal is to have the best aesthetic quality while also maximizing my ability to blend in, as well as maintain my individuality/creativity.

By wearing a heavy coat and shorts like >>8624113 I (as well as everyone else wearing such an outfit) would be losing aesthetic quality and increasing my noticeability (because even plebs will know I look fucking retarded).

Exactly.

You want to do it, go for it. But you probably shouldnt.

The only people I can think that regularly did this were the computer geek neckbeards from school who bought giant black coats, wore them with those awful plaid cargo shorts and triblies/fedoras. I liked the people, but they looked just silly.

You took too long to save me from myself, anon. I am wearing it right now. At least I can say it was out of necessity: it was cold as shit and these were the only clothes available. I don't feel very weird, tough, and I think I ak not getting weird looks. At least the colors match.

How does one use a single breasted, knee long overcoat without looking antiquated? I'm yet young but I can't stop looking like pic? Anyone has inspo pics? How would I match it with jeans?
