Air doesn't have retina but I'd personally still rather have an Air for uni because of its weight and size. If you really enjoy high pixel density then go with the rMBP, both are a good buy.

Don't go crazy with accessories or software you don't need, for basic shit a MacBook with OS X is wonderful on its own.

This is so fucking repulsive to me, which feels a bit strange considering i use the same argument on clothing. But really, it is stupid. I've always wondered how someone can spend a reasonable amount of money on something like a computer and not care what it looks or feels like at all. I need help too.

I've been meaning to get a Macbook Pro too for music production because this lately I'm all over the place except home, so I can't use my desktop enough and being able to produce on long train rides (which I'm on often) or if I'm bored some place or even at work when I have time would be amazing.

Thing is I'm a poorfag though, so I need to buy a used one. I wanted to know, how old would be too old, year/model-wise? I understand they last for years, but I don't want to buy one that's going to start slowing down and becoming obsolete within a year. Most the ones in my price range are 2010-11 and the odd 2012 one too, but ideally I'm looking for a 15", most of which are 2010-11s. Maybe it would just be a lot more wiser to buy a "normal" Windows based laptop, but I've had bad experiences with them and I've always seen how reliable my friends' MBPs are.

2010-2012 would be fine, certainly nothing made within those years will slow down from normal use any time soon. While I wouldn't dream of using it personally because I have to process large videos and images so often, my old 2008 MacBook still runs absolutely fine for web browsing and word processing. Who in this thread has that idea? I only see a couple of posts pertaining to it, with the rest just talking about what they find aesthetically pleasing.

I have a nice house. All of my furniture is nice. My appliances are nice. Why would I spend the bare minimum possible on a computer and end up with something made of thin plastic with a messy, ugly design that feels awful to hold and touch? To me the problem with Macbooks are that are the same category as Obey/Quicksilver and other pleb brands.
