I was walking around some stores on 5th ave NYC and I noticed something that confirmed my suspicions after browsing /fa/:

ALL (young) JAPANESE PEOPLE HAVE AN AMAZING FASHION SENSE

What the fuck is going on /fa/? These people are killin' it why are we even trying to keep up???

It varies from place to place.
Some Asians will go to places like sneakerboy and cop the most gaudy expensive shoes they can, while others are just better with styling.

It could just be yellow fever or some shit, since East-Asian media is flowing into the West showing us how non-ugly they are and how enlightened and cool they are, even though they're xenophobic and have sexual problems.

For every well dressed Japanese dude, there are 50 other awfully dressed Japanese dudes. It might just be the ratio which seems better than western countries that makes people think Asians are better dressed

Loads of money (in the case of asians in western universities at least) plus a tiny, skinny physique with easily stylable hair and a middling skin tone.

Unfortunately they're still small and beta to the extreme, which is sad because confidence is key to fshion and in western countries pretty much every asian looks terrified of literally anyone non-asian.

That and they have an unfortunate tendency to be really ugly.

Japanese style is a thing and there's not nothing to what you're saying, but it's extremely overblown.

One, you're of course noticing the more /fa/ ones more and discarding the unremarkable ones.
Two, a LOT more of them are Asian-American than you realize.
Third, a lot less of them are of Japanese origin than you realize.
Fourth, think about the type of young person who'd come from East Asia to New York and be strutting around stores on 5th. Moneyed, cosmopolitan or aspiring to it, and into fashion. The boring Japanese are so numerous there's actually multiple words for them, one of them internationally famous.
