I wore SS about a year straight before I got CP achilles in white, and since then I've worn the CP's a year straight. The comfort for me is way higher and the silhouette is better. I can't comment on longevity for many years, but after 1 year each, the CP's are standing up much better than the SS. If you got the money, go for it. Check ssense for sale leftovers.

I agree. My beef with CP's is that they were originally intended to be the ultimate low key minimal sneaker but due to massive popularity they actually completely fail at fulfilling that purpose.

I can now spot them from a mile away and because they have the reputation that they do they stick out like a sore thumb.

It's no different than seeing geo baskies in the wild, they have that same insane level of hype and have been re-posted so much (not just on /fa/ but the internet fashion-sphere as a whole) that if they even touch the edge of your field of vision you immediately zone in on them.

With the geo baskets it's fine because they're meant to stand out in the first place but for the CP's all it does is ruin the fit (that is if the fit is supposed to be low key incognito-lux). For that intent the Adidas Stan Smiths works infinitely better and are still the reigning champ and original low key tennis sneaker.

You could ague that they only stick out to people who know fashion but the Stan Smiths goes under the radar with plebs AND fashion people. Same story with a ton of other sneakers out there, designer and non-designer alike. The reality is CP's are now awful at doing what they were originally intended for. With that said if you're wearing them because you like the design or want to flash dem gold digitz be my guest but if you're one of the people in this thread trying to argue that they're the best at being minimal and low key you're totally incorrect.

Other things to note, I've always disliked the toe box and thought it looked off. Also the price has ballooned more than almost any other brand in the last 10 years. When the Achilles Low was first introduced back in 04-06, they cost $200-$250, today they're $400-$500. The design, construction, and materials have not changed one iota. Nothing else I can think of has doubled like that. So you're right, the value is totally off base and it's entirely due to popularity.

Quality post. I'm arguing for the CP's but I definitely understand what you're saying. And I agree for the most part. Design wise, it's not a secret that the Achilles is more minimalistic than the Stan Smith. The Stan Smith has the Adidas logo, the tongue logo, heel logo etc. CP's do have the golden numbers. Now the low-key you speak of, I agree. I've never seen anyone else in CP's in real life, but if I did I bet I'd come to the same conclusion over time. That being said, I love the design and will wear all my Achilles forever.

Just because you recognize that 12-font stamp on the heel from 3 feet away doesn't mean the shoe is all of a sudden not low key. In many ways, it really is the ultimate low key sneaker; show me a shoe made in Italy with comparable quality construction and silhouette at a significantly lower price. Sure it's iconic in the #menswear world, but it's for all the good reasons.

Ignorant conjecture. What I never understand about these pronouncements is that if it were true, wouldn't we see a whole slew of people producing $200 shoes to undersell CP? Look at all the companies also using Margom soles and the CP factory: Svensson's are still $390, Hydrogen-1's are $305, Wings + Horns are $380. Neither of those brands have the sort of hype machine behind them that CPs do, so obviously there is something about the amount of calfskin, the manufacturing costs, the freight/duties that means that retailers need to sell them for around $400 to make a profit.
