So what's with the Stan Smiths, why do they look pretty good in photos like this but then when I see them on WAYWT or whatever they look much chunkier? Are there any actual examples of these looking decent in a non-marketing photo?

There are two different versions of the stan smith, the european and american one.

The european one has a yeollowed sole, slim profile and tongue, better leather, leather lining and the suede heel at the back.

The american one is clunkier and has mesh/nylon inner lining.

The european version looks much better.

I work in Size (UK sneaker head shop). Here's some knowledge:

There are two versions of the 2014 Stan Smiths. The normal ones and the vintage ones. You can buy both in the UK. They sell the normal ones in the Adidas shop and most sportswear stores. You can only get the vintage ones in places like Size, Oi Polloi, End etc.

The vintage model have a yellowed sole, suede patch on the back and better quality leather. They only cost about £10 more than the normal ones as well.

The all black version only comes in the normal, old style US silhouette (no suede).

Silhouette isn't massively different but it's more the quality of leather, suede tab and sole.
