I own a Makr daypack.
Though it's a bit out of your range unless you can find it on sale.

It's the thickest canvas I've ever been around. I think it's called duck canvas or something. I haven't owned it long enough to see how well it actually hold ups, but I don't think anything is going to fall apart anytime in the near or far future. Only thing is, I knew it was small, but it just seemed a bit smaller in person when I actually got it. Still wouldn't choose anything else though.

I can vouch for Makr as well. 2 years in on my farm rucksack and while the color has faded a ton from the sun and constant use, the construction doesn't have a single flaw, it's holding up great. The natural leather breaks in really nicely
Makr also has sales but they're very rare and limited on models/colors. I got mine on sale for $100, they only had farm rucksacks in black or brown for sale though.

Surprised no one has posted this yet.

Personally I have the Mission Workshop Vandal which is fucking great but a little out of your price range, and maybe more techy than you want. But I recommend it highly because it's bombproof.

i think the 5.11 rush series is quite good
based on the quality and shits that it offers
except that it might be too "tactical"
i use the 24 for school and i think 12 will be fine for daily use
besides the hardcore, manly, tactical looks.
i think it's a very good bag
