I agree. What makes me dislike the OP pic is the formal/sneak combo without any attempt to dress down to make them work together. It just looks awkward as is. Just taking off the tie would be a big improvement in my opinion.

>> No.8394924

GQ fits usually look fine in their own pictures, but if you saw someone wearing the same fit (and we'll assume the same body as well) in public, they'd probably look dumb. Everything would look uncomfortably tight, but worst of all, the wearer would look like he cares way too much about his appearance and you could just imagine the guy spending countless hours staring at himself in the mirror.

I don't know if anyone will understand what I'm referencing, but if you've ever been to like a high school debate tournament, then you should know how fucking retarded "those GQ kids" look

I remember one time there was this kid wearing a fit straight out of GQ and he was loudly explaining to his friend how he achieved his hair style using sea salt spray, he was like 5'6 and everyone made fun of him (including myself) even though there was technically nothing wrong with his fit, it was just that he looked like such a fucking tool

>>8394784
I'm not a lawyer, but I work in an industry that prides itself on being as blue blooded as possible. Most everyone in my office is from an ivy league or top state school (usually Michigan or Berkeley), there are very few minorities or females, and everyone wears suits. The most successful people are the people that dress as conservatively as possible. From what I've heard, it's similar in most law firms, where you have to dress and act as conservatively as possible in order to show that you "understand the game" or whatever. Unless you work for the ACLU, I'd recommend sticking with charcoal 3 button suits and all that.

I think this is true for all clothes man. People just look better naked, clothes today aren't perfectly built for movement and always look better in stills.

That's because they're trying to be /fa/ in a formal setting.

Just like: >>8394784 was thinking about doing.

If you try to stand out in an office or any other sort of formal setting, it's inappropriate. If someone in a casual setting wears the outfit in OP's pic, then they'll look great.

>> No.8395122

>>8395060
Egh, true, it's mismatched. Wasn't paying much attention. Probably an attempt to "dress it down" like a guy upthread said.

Why are we discussing GQ again?

>>8395114
>If you try to stand out in an office or any other sort of formal setting, it's inappropriate. If someone in a casual setting wears the outfit in OP's pic, then they'll look great.

Lolno. If you try to stand out in a formal setting without understanding the codes and without the appropriate charisma (qualitative, not quantitative, n.b.) and fuck it up it's inappropriate.

The partial exception is if it's an event about a specific person, the classic example being a wedding. You don't want to draw more attention than the couple, or the wedding party if you're not in it, but it's perfectly acceptable to be dressed better than their lameo rental gear and to be distinctive amongst other guests.

Which - this whole "standing out" thing or even "distinction" is bullshit. Just dress who you are within the codes of any particular situation. /topic

The point I was trying to make is this. If you're a lawyer, or work in an office and dress like pic related everyday, chances are you won't be employed for very long. But if that's what you wear outside of work, debates or other formal occasions, then there's no problem.

"Formal" is a wide field, though, with different standards. Even within law, levels of conservatism vary widely, and you'd be doing it wrong to show up to a wedding in a super-lawyery suit, or to show up to a beach wedding for one you'd wear in Vermont in October.

Which will vary.

My experience is that, if there is a dress code, written or otherwise, and you really understand it, you can get away with whatever you want inside it.

Not in law, consulting, etc., though, and I wasn't interested in internal advancement at any of those places. From people who are, I understand company culture is everything, and so any Internet advice is going to be pointless.

>> No.8395392

I don't know if anyone agrees with me but I feel like due to the close colours of the jacket and the trousers, the pattern of the jacket looks a bit jarring against the trousers.
For the fit to really come together the jacket would be much less structured to allow the sneaker-suit look to work. Also, losing the tie bar (not sure if its just a stripe on the tie) would help keep the look casually tailored without being too stiff and suited. Some subtle summer accessories would help too.

Literally every state is tyranny, dipshit.

Lincoln ended chattel slavery in the US, which automatically makes him GOAT POTUS. To whine about his motivations, the measures he used to do so, or the atrocities of some of his generals is sentimental horseshit.
