It's doable, but you have to be particular with the fabric and styling to make sure it reads as deliberately casual, not "oops, didn't realize I was going to go to a bar tonight". This is an extreme example (e.g. with the shiny synthetic fabric), but you want the suit to very clear read NOT as a business suit. That's why everyone is saying, "no". A purely casual, dark suit is something that is not necessarily a great value purchase if you don't already have a very wide assortment of clothes. If you do want inspiration for modern, dressed down suiting, take a look at stuff like HUGO, Calvin Klein Collection, BLK DNM, etc.

Suits are always formal, black especially. You won't get away from that fact. Wearing a complete suit to anywhere that's not a serious/professional setting is bad. Of course, a suit can be made more casual with different cuts or fabrics, but you need to be careful with them or you'll look like "that guy" who wants to dress like a gentleman from the 50's.

The problem is that I'm a slightly chubby (working on it) manlet and I need summer clothes.

This Small/Medium/Large thing is killing me. Small clothes are too tight and show off my belly, even though I fit the chest size. But Medium clothes are too long and slightly baggy. "Model is 6' 2" and wears a Medium", can I really pull off the same size at 5' 8"?

You have to reeeeaaallllyyyy know what you're doing to pull of cargos. It also helps if you're Asian. But if you're new, I can assume you won't be pulling off the cargos. Get some fitted (tapered if possible as well) black jeans (cheap Monday for budget, Acne ace/max cash if you can afford it) and you could probably get the olive tee to work. Id say forgo the graphics until you figure out what you're doing...grab some black/white/grey/MAYBE olive if it's dark enough tees to go with the jeans. Don't be afraid to wear black on black, or monochrome. It will look good, or at least a lot better than a short sleeve button down with excess pockets and cargo pants. Also, don't be afraid if you feel a bit self conscious with your new fit, and expect to fuck up on purchases every now and again. We've all done it. Enjoy your journey becoming effay! Soon enough you'll be copping geobaskets, CCP drips, and the UC she brings the rain jacket and reminiscing on when you didn't know shit.
